An interesting read.  I sometimes like to think the first time is just a dress rehearsal for the second time, the real first time!

I see why you made this post friends only... I'm glad you didn't do so with your whole blog! I've been slowly catching up with posts from one symposium ago... this was absolutely worth the wait! Tales of newbies to our country are wonderful to read... and there are more than a few folks who started out elsewhere and are now here. Thank you for sharing this, even if only with a few select folk... delighted to have it as a symposium contribution!
