To Travel or Not to Travel

Conundrum.

I met somebody via the blogs and we connected very strongly. Such that we really wanted to meet one another (yeah... I feel that way about quite a few of my bloggy friends). Plans were made for me to travel in November. Because I have a vacation and have full intentions of using it (and can't afford my original plan: Ireland and London). Also I truly wanted to meet said friend. It was fairly planned out... place to stay, time to visit, he had nothing else on his calendar. But then his life changed drastically.

He surely still wishes to meet me, but it's clear he will not have the time he thought (and maybe still thinks) he would have.

Part of me says not to go. I've not bought the tickets yet, after all.

The other part says: go anyways. Have an Adventure. See new places, do new things. Meet new people. I love travel but get little chance lately.

Of course I now have the added issue of finding a place to stay, and dealing with public transportation or having to rent a car. (Assuming worst case scenario: I show up and said friend isn't available at all). Between couchsurfing and various organizations I belong to or am affiliated with, other friends (and possibly family) and youth hostels... inexpensive to free lodging is surely possible. But it's a whole lot more planning and working out the fine details than anticipated.

What would YOU do?

Go anyways?
Find something else to do?

November also happens to be when one of my favorite local hotels traditionally has rooms for sale (first night 75, 2nd night 25) lake-view jacuzzi suites (depending on the room). I could take 4 nights there. Of course a jacuzzi suite is infinitely more fun with somebody to share it with. I could also just use the money towards a reliable, long-lasting vehicle. Alternate uses of the funds are endless.

Go. My wife was a long way off when we met and she was sure it was too far, and that it couldn't work, and that I would lose interest because it was such a hassle. I wanted her. Still do.

What's the cut off for buying the cheaper rate air tickets. If you have time to wait a bit you may find he wants you more than you think. Hope fully he will give you that sign you need before the tickets jump. And if he doesn't then Four Nights at the Coeur D' Alene Hotel over looking the lake is as romantic as you'll get. I'm sure someone in your friend group would love to join. Your definitely Hot enough..!.

I know it's hard meeting people of like nature, especially here, but it does happen. And were not all creeps. LOL.

They are actually still at the cheaper rate (not quite as cheap but haven't gone up too much yet).

You're just saying that so I can drive over and meet you next time you're in port

Actually I know it's the logical thing to do.

I would say GO SOMEWHERE. Not necessarily to see him. Sounds like an avoidance tactic on his part. I'd place bets on the idea that he's already got a situation he's somewhat "tied down" with.

Just start researching potential fun trips to take. Maybe to warm places that time of year. And if you find one you really like just go for the adventure of it.

I know his situation, but have chosen not to divulge much of it here. My "just for the Adventure of it" was going to be Ireland haha (London would be meet an internet friend/lover).

Honestly, once upon a time my greatest wish was a job that paid enough $ to cover the bills and a little to the side and the rest for travel. Small drives to explore places within weekend trip driving distances. One weekend a month or so (depending on ticket prices) explore a new city by plane - sadly my airport is Spokane International Airport. Which flied only to Seattle and Boise. (Possibly not true but it feels like it). Then, once a year, a 1 - 3 week vacation somewhere overseas.

I'm not into "traditional" go, lounge at the beach type vacations. But the backpacking type, stay in youth hostels, friends known and newly met, see the touristy spots but also the normal life of the people. THEIR hangouts and fun things. etc.

I love to travel too, but in the recounted circumstances I think I would save some money and vacation locally.

I'm giving it another week.

For many reasons.
