You sure talk about dreams alot for someone who claims not to place any meaning in them

That's just because I'm boring and have nothing else to talk about OKAY ?

Last night I had a dream that my grandma , my grandma's late in life lesbian "friend" , my sister and I were solving a murder mystery . It was a very long and elaborate dream , and kind of boring in parts . Anyway at the end when the killer was revealed I was completed shocked .

How is that possible ? My brain created the story , how could my brain also not know who the killer was ?

And don't try to feed me some line about conscious VS subconscious mind because this was a dream yo , I was asleep , it was hot unconscious on unconscious action .

So then you might try to say "well the dream was being made up as you went long , it was like improve , your brain didn't know who the killer was ahead of time '

Balderdash I say ! Because there were clues all over the place that lead us to that conclusion . It was in iterative process that lead to only one outcome .

Explain that with your precious science !

While we're on the topic of my grandma's late in life lesbian "friend" there's been a big hub-bub amongst the family because it was discovered that back in the 50's my grandma's late in life lesbian friend was pimping out some of the girls that worked in her bakery . Which is not a conundrum you expect to confront in life "Do we tell grandma that her girlfriend was a ?"

One thing that occurred me is that the predatory is a pretty common trope in various forms of media BUT when it's a lady doing the pimping there's none of that . In fact when a lady is introduced into the story nine times out of ten she's presented as an ally/friend of the protagonist . She protects "her girls" and is show to have a heart of gold , etc. They're not even called pimps , they're called "madams" .

The only time I remember a lady being shown in a negative light is an old B&W Sherlock Holmes movie where the brothel lady was having her goons kidnap attractive women and forcing them to work for her . But even then it was revealed that she was herself a victim of a male villain controlling her .

Part of it is probably just the standard double standard action - men are ravenous monsters , women are simple and innocent victims BUT what occurred to me is that even more than that it's probably plain old racism .

Think of a you saw in a movie or TV show - probably a black dude

Now think of a madam - probably a pretty white lady

The other question this raises is if someone did some bad shit 60 years ago should we care ? This question comes up every now and then when some soccer mom is revealed to have been a real piece of shit back in the day who blew up a post office or something but then she "got her life together" and became "a good upstanding citizen" . Does that matter ?

People like to say that America is all about second chance , but is that a good idea ? Because if it is I kind of feel like there's no real point in putting people in prison at all .

I went to HS with a dude that played in the NFL for a few years and if we assume it's legit he's all full of Jesus now and spends all his time and money helping people . But back in HS his shtick was getting obliterated on meth and beating the Christ out of homeless people . One of whom almost died and did end up with severe physical disabilities as result of the beating .

I still hate his guts and wish something terrible would happen to his family but I acknowledge that is a emotional reaction - looking at is dispassionately I can't decide what I should feel .

I understand that everyone WANTS a second chance but I'm not convinced anyone should get one . Which is totally illogical but I can't shake it .

And as long as we're talking about how our brains don't really know what the heck is going on I always "knew" that our memories were kind of bullshit but it turns out there's more or less 100% bullshit .

Case in point the "flash memory" . This term was coined when JFK was assassinated because the idea was that everyone remembers EXACTLY where they were and what they were doing when they found out . 9/11 is considered another one of this "flash memory" moments and they've looked into it found that people's memories of where they were and what they were doing when they found out about 9/11 are wildly inaccurate .

For instance you ask Billy and he says he was at Franco's Coffee shop with Linda and Steve when they saw it on the TV .

Then you ask Linda and she says she was at Gilbert's grocery store having coffee with Billy and Sharon when they heard it on the radio .

Then you ask Steve and he says he was in the car on the way to work after having coffee with Sharon and Billy at Billy's house when his wife called and told him .

So there you go , memory is all made up . So if you feel good about what you've done sorry buddy but you probably didn't do it . But on the plus side if you feel shitty about what you've done good news you probably didn't do it .

Re, your mystery dream, the book that I'm reading says that dreams are active problem solving and it sounds like your dream is the perfect example of that. Seems like your brain was figuring it out as the plot proceeded so there's still the potential to be surprised at the end.

We had one of those soccer moms who was a revolutionary during the 60's in my town, alias Sara Jane Olson. She was arrested after her case was shown on America's Most Wanted and someone left a tip. As usual your blog spurred me to google something and learn more about it - I remembered when she was arrested, but not how the whole thing turned out. She ended up serving seven years in prison, even though she was a model citizen during the 23 years she was "underground".

But what's your opinion ? Do you think she should have gone to the big house or does 23 years of being a "model citizen" make up for it ?

You remember being shocked in your dream but then follow that with the unreliability of memory. I gotta remember this for later.

I don't remember saying that

I realize they couldn’t just let her off completely, but seven years hard time seems excessive to me. They even sent her back for a year after she was first released, because of some sentencing error.
