To whom do i pray?

Just wanted to slip in a quick post asking for the group to tell me their version of their higher power?..what or who do you turn to when you give over your tribulations and issues that you cannot handle on your own? who or what do you look to for comfort and guidance as you seek out coping alternatives that do not include chemicals or alcohol or self abuse?..just wondering.....

i was raised with religion being crammed down my throat and hypocrisy running rampant in those i saw that supposedly were in the service of god.....i need to develop a relationship with something, someone or some....what..... to take me to the places i need to go from here....how do i develop a relationship with an entity that i am not sure i believe in......? anyone?

so .....who is your god?

The higher being is in you. Is there a higher being maybe. Whether there is or not. Its all based on faith. Religion whether christian or other give us a prime example of how to live. Christ preached love and tolerance. Sadly many do not live christlike. But that does not mean you can not. I believe god is all around. In my pet, in a tree, in a piece of wood. God is everywhere. Just have to have faith and believe in something that will bring you joy and happiness.

Their's a higher power somewhere. What that is I have no idea. Only way we'll find out what that is, is when we're gone.

By the way, I'd love to chat with you sometime.

He/She is thy praise, and is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

Greetings Legs,
you touched me with this question. i was much like you, but in my case i got some feeling for the church and what it was, but never enough to really understand who god really was. as i went thru life i believed in god, but did not have a relationship with him or even know how to.
in december of 1998, i found myself in a very sad situation, my wife was kicking me out for another man, i was out of work, broke busted, and disgusted. my dad came and picked me up. and took me to his house. he introduced me to the church and god. the only one true god. then he left me to develope my own relationship with him. it has been a life saving experience.
i understand what you are saying about someone stuffing down your throat, but that is not god. he will always leave you to make your own choices, and he will always be there to pick you up and help you when you fall.
i am not a bible thumping person who thinks you will go to hell if you don't do things a certain way. i love to play, and i play very hardy. i enjoy life and enjoy being around people who also enjoy that, but i always look to god for guidance.
so i guess the answer to your question is there is only one true living god to whom you should pray. find a good bible based church. (non-denominational) i would suggest and start your journey. if you would like i know a good one, and we can have allot of fun before and after.

Over here in Australia, we call him "HUEY"! Well - all of the surfers do anyway. If there are no waves we pray that huey sends some swell our way! It is all in good jest though! I personally believe - Yes - & we each have to find our way there. Unfortunately there is a lot of messed up, hypocritical people involved in what would otherwise be good religions. Steer clear of any fanatics of any denominations. Find good balanced & honest people & you will find your way to the real truth!
