The Vegas experience

I've been living in the Las Vegas valley now for about 7 1/2 years, from a lifetime living in the Los Angeles area, aside from a couple of brief periods elsewhere.

The biggest adjustment? Most obviously, the weather! It gets a hell of a lot hotter here, but it also gets a lot colder. And it's a whole lot drier. Average annual rainfall here, about 4 1/2 inches (gratefully, not the length of my, uh, "Mr. Happy"!). Adjusting to the heat was no problem .... 110 degrees? Bring it! Heat is a force of nature, it awes me, it invigorates me, it loosens me, it .... makes me sweat! I work at the airport, that tarmac is asphalt and it gets hot.

And then there's "monsoon season" in Vegas, in July/August. That's what locals call it, but it isn't 10 inches a day for 3 months or some shit like that, it's just a hard rain for 5-10 minutes, flash floods, and loads of lightening. Can be quite entertaining.

Then there's winter. Cold sucks. I hate cold weather. I don't know how you folks back east can stand it. Fuck cold weather! A couple years after I moved here, one December day a couple hours before going to work, I look out and see snow flakes. Shit. And it kept coming, and coming .... by the time I went out to the car, I had to dig the fucker out. Went to work, the airport was closed, they don't have any snow clearing equipment here. Turns out it was a "30 year" snow storm, about 7 inches. I know I know, that's NOTHING compared to the Northeast, but it was amazing here!

Anyway, enough about the weather, I may have bored you shitless by now! Will be back later for my observations on other things about this town that gets 40 million visitors every year, through just the airport alone.

Now, if I didn't completely bore you, leave a comment, just say "Hi" or some other thing. Okay? That way, I'll be encouraged to post some more shit, interesting stuff like housing stats and the return % on Double Double Bonus Poker, things you NEED to know! HA!

I'll leave another couple photos, just for the hell of it. It's the Pat Tillman bridge at Hoover Dam .... has a walkway on one side facing the dam, with a 4 foot railing. If you want to test your fear of heights, walk out on it and look over the railing. You'll get an instant buzz!

Absolutely, high desert, hotter in summer colder in winter. I grew up in San Diego, moved here in '05. Monsoons are a crack up, perfectly nice day then BAM it's pouring rain!

I've driven over that bridge a few times, never catch ME walking out there

Everyone is on a different plane of intelligence. Some people's plane has not taken off yet!!

Hi Kittyliquor!

Yeah, the monsoons can be interesting! I made a video of one especially violent one. Lightening got very close.

As for the bridge, I've walked out on it a couple times even though I hate heights .... just to face my fears head on! It's a real buzz.
