Storm Doris

I am uneasy about the whole idea of naming storms and hurricanes. Obviously I realise that meteorologically it is helpful for a storm to have a name, rather than be 2017 Atlantic Low Number 476 or whatever. Although even then, I suspect it is more a mechanism for the meteorologists to get public attention, and therefore action and dare I say it, funding, if the thing has a name. The scientists themselves are probably more than happy with AL2017476

Anyway, getting away from that side of the politics, here in Bloghampton, Storm Doris is forecast for tomorrow, and it's just that I wonder how often there is some poor girl somewhere who gets called "Storm Doris" or whatever for a while, maybe even permanently as a result of this, and as we all know, what someone is called definitely can have an effect on them.

How many Hurricane Katrinas are there out there these days I wonder? (I would love to meet one by the way, lol ) I am sure I would have laughed at this if I had been at school, or maybe even in the office with a girl called Katrina at the time. I would never have meant it unkindly, but we all know you can sometimes bully people by accident. Of course it could be a good thing. She might have wanted to be a sprinter and the nick name spurred her on. But equally, she could have been naturally hot tempered, and ended up in anger management.

Of course hurricanes are named after boys too.

Although as far as I know there has never been a "Hurricane Dreamer."

Funny how they are given female names isn't it? I wonder why???

It's due to hit here tonight when I am warm and cozy in my bed (I hope)

I don't think there are too many women alive called Doris!
I am in the south, so not supposed to be too bad here.
Looks like midlands and Scotland are going to bear the brunt

Ha haa! Okay, I know what you are saying, and up to a point I expect you are right - at least not too many young enough for this to be likely to be a problem. But I bet there are some. Even kids. In fact I just tried googling, and you can add any surname you like, someone always comes up. So there are more than you think!

Anyway, thanks for coming by and giving me a laugh with that stupid shitsu joke!

I don't think a hurricane called Dreamer would be too worrying. It's too nicer a name.

Well, I'm a bit late to wish you well with the hot-tempered Doris. I hope it wasn't too bad.

And Storm Dreamer wouldn't really get anyone all up in arms...unless it sent nightmares!

No Damage to Dreamer Hall or the surroundings, but some trees down here and there and property damage further north. Nothing out of the ordinary though - never anything here to compare with what you have to put up with on the other side of the Atlantic!

And I hope never to send anyone any nightmares!

After Hurricane Sandy and Sandy Hook, I adopted Sati as my full-time name. Previously I'd used Sati in most places, but sometimes gone with Sandy when I was feeling particularly American, but it's definitely lost its lustre now. At some point I'll change it legally, though probably not until my passport's due for renewal - those things are bloody expensive.

(Legally, I am Sandra Marie Elizabeth Collins Frost, but I cringe when I get called Sandra - it's my mother's name, not mine.)

My grandmother was a Doris, but I imagine she'd quite enjoy being a storm!

Do not seek an external refuge, but be a light unto yourself.

They seem like good reasons to change. Anyway, Sati is a lot more memorable and individual. It certainly suits you. Great to see you by the way.
