HONEST OPINIONS OF LOVE

"What does love mean?"

A group of professional people posted this question to a group of 4 to 8 year olds. The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.

1. When my grandma got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandpa does it for her now all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.
Rebecca - age 8

2. When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouths.
Billy - age 4

3. Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving Cologne and they go out and smell each other.
Kari - age 5

4. Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.
Terri - age 4

5. Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.
Danny - age 7

6. Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My mommy and daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss.
Emily - age 8

7. Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.
Bobby - age 7

8. Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends, even after they know each other so well.
Tommy - age 6

9. Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.
Chris - age 7

10. You really shouldn't say "I LOVE YOU" unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.
Jessica - age 8

And the winner was a 4 year old whose next door neighbor was an elderly man who had just lost his wife. When the saw the man cry, the little boy went over into the man's yard and climbed on top of the man's lap and just sat there.

When the boy's mother asked him what he'd said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

my 5yr old says love is mummy spitting on my knee and washing the blood away...oh dear.....

kids are very open and say what they see and what they mean..

they are very truthful no matter how hurtful...

but you can bet they certainly know things far more than they do for their age................

i am a mother of 6 so i know...love liz..

Hi Liz,

I know what you mean. I raised 5 children myself and there were times they showed that their wisdom far surpassed our own. I certainly miss those days of innocence, both theirs and ours.

Love,
Bonnie

Good Morning Bonnie,

Thank you for another wonderful, heart-warming posting!

My niece Rachel, used to babysit for a 5 year old neighbor boy. The two of them formed a special bond that was filled with laughter and love. Even though Rachel was only 18 years old...she was like a 2nd Mom to this little guy.
When we lost Rachel several years ago, the little boy and his Mom came to the memorial service. The little boy wanted to tell my Brother that he was sorry that Rachel was gone, AND that he loved her very much. He walked up to my Brother after the service, with arms outstretched for a hug...my Brother leaned down, picked him up in his arms...and the little 5 year old whispered something in his ear that brought tears to my Brother's eyes, and a smile to his face!
After he put the little boy down, I walked up to him and asked him what the little guy had said. My Brother still had the smile on his face, and a tear in his eye, as he told me what the little boy said...he had whispered,"My heart hurts...really good!".

Hugs to you Bonnie,

Tom

Why is it that adults forget how to love like a child?

The perversity of the universe is unbounded.

If we ever want to know about love,

Just ask,

A child. smile
