IRL: mask of the pixels

"IRL", of course, is net speak for 'in real life'.

My computer screen, my mouse, my keyboard are all tangible items. When I go on the net and navigate to a website, like this one, it is like driving to a favourite restaurant. A starting point, an ending point and 'road' in between.

Is the net world not real to you? or is it just because the people we interact with, online, we are unable to touch or see?

In day to day life, we 'read' peoples' facial expressions, their body language and listen to their words. We reflect on the consistency of their behavior and the sincerity in their voice.

In the 'net world', we read what people write and we 'read' through the words. Ever trying to establish a feel for what that individual might be like in person. Writers establish something called 'tone'. Carefully choosing words and surrounding context to give the appearance of speech and communicate a mood.

In the 'net world', some may misrepresent themselves. This can translate to everyday life. if you lie online, chances are pretty good, you'll lie in person.

Some develop online 'courage'. They will say things here that they would not say in the real world. Why? Well, we live in a violent society, for one. Beware, however, because words can be equally or more damaging than physical confrontation.

In person, I have a deep voice that projects. I increase in volume when excited or speaking of something I am passionate about. Most of the time, I am assertively soft spoken.

I am a peaceful soul. I abhor physical violence and have never raised a hand to anyone.

I love animals and nature but am not the outdoorsman.

I can be a perv but, usually, I find a tactful way of being 'off color'.

The 'monk' with a racing stripe

The 'real world' and the 'net world' are mostly the same. Be who you are. Words hurt, so choose your words carefully to convey the message you intend. Reflect on how your responses, etc. would sound if they were spoken to you. Avoid toxicity. Unhealthiness is destructive in either 'world'. We are only a screen apart.

What is your impression of me? Do you think I am as I 'read'?

Who are you? Are you the same person online as you are in everyday life?

Navigate peacefully......

I agree whole-heartedly. The net and the so-called real world are no different, because either way, you're still interacting with real people. It's funny how someone can respect you in a grocery store, and then treat you like a whore online. It is not one world, indeed!

Here I am thinking that IRL stands for International Racing League-silly me, lol!

I, now, live in the South, so it's all NASCAR, all the time!!!

I know what you mean, though, I prefer open wheels, myself. It's a speed thing, I guess.

Actually, I grew up a few miles from one of Carl Haas' shops. I used to peek in the window, when I was a kid, and look at the Indy racers being built.

Thanks for the visit.

Be at peace,

C
