Understanding People

As a young man, aged about 21 (1987), I met a girl, and oh boy, did I think my luck was in, every morning without fail, she would awake and wipe my manhood with a wet wipe, and proceed to pleasure me with a loving blowjob, at completion she would again clean me, and then get on about her day.

She was a clean and tidy person and she liked routine, I had certainly noticed that, and sometimes it would take here ten minutes to make sure all the two-way switches were the right way around in the Hall and on the Landing etc, and that could be annoying. However, In addition to what I have said above we had a happy life and yes, a good sex life too. Sadly after about two years (1989) we separated, and both got on with our lives.

It was not until about 12 years (2001) later, I found out that she had two spells in a Mental Hospital for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in the previous ten years.

I found out that her boyfriend before me would physically beat her up if she failed to give him Oral Sex every day, I did not know this and I did not understand mental health issues, maybe I was selfish, I was certainly enjoying the attention I was getting, so possible I did not question it. I just accepted this is what she did for me because she loved me.

She got treatment at the Arundel Unit at the William Harvey Hospital, which a couple of years ago close this Mental Health unit. My friend was lucky she got treatment, and she over the past decade moved on, happily married for nine years with two lovely .

We as a society have to be more aware of people’s issues, and certainly have to campaign for mental health budgets to be protected, and for the status of mental health issues to be as high as physical ones. It is real people’s lives that are are affected, and the impact can be serious, every suicide is a life wasted, and a family in torment.

I wish I had known more then, realised the signs and helped her more, and I am thankful that she recovered.
