I'm an expert at talking bollocks too, so know how to decifer most things guys tell me. I'd much rather meet with a guy who is open and most of our conversations are NOT sexually based.

I'm one of the most distrustful people around, probably spend far too long analysing everything in peoples profiles and every word they tell me. Never had the chance to go to a meet, but like the idea, maybe there is an opportunity here...monthly FriendFinder-x meets. I only mean an opportunity for like-minded people to socialise once a month, not some kind of hook-up event....dunno I'm rambling!!

I like to read a profile as much because of what it doesn't say as what it does. Also the way it is written and what the person chooses to reveal about themselves is very telling (automated profiles? what's all that about?).

Chatting is also good, I agree with your reasons. A profile can be thought of over time, added to, vetted by friends. But how someone is 'on the hoof' so to speak is harder to fake.

Neither of these are any kind of substitute for meeting someone but, if you pay attention, they can be a good pre-selection process. There are certain triggers that would ring alarm bells with me and make me not want to meet a person.

I find that getting to know someone a little on her can be far more enlightening than someone you meet in the pub. All there is to do online is chat and sometimes, you meet a person for the first time knowing more than you would about them if you met another way. That's assuming honesty of course, which is not guaranteed in RL either.
