The plan

I was talking to my mother yesterday and she says to me "I worry about you, you are 51 and you're not settled."

I've got that stuff from her all my life, that's mothers for you after all, especially Irish Catholic ones, they want to see their married and churning out grandchildren, that's the plan, what you are supposed to do to lead a good life.

I've never been married, hell i've only ever brought home four girlfriends to run the gauntlet of familial inquisition. I joke that it is hard to get someone that drunk and still expect them to stand at an altar, i've come close but, well, life happens, it doesn't always care about plans, it doesn't always give you what you want it sure doesn't give you guarantees, about the only thing you can be sure of is having to make lemonade sometimes.

Have i had a good life? I've been happy, i've been sad, i've felt fulfilled on occasion, i have a i love to bits, i've had good friends and people i have loved, doesn't sound so bad to me. Could it have been better? Sure, could it have been worse? Absofrickenlutely!!

Life is what you make of it, the trick is to live it.

A yes the dreaded gauntlet of familial inquisition. If I were to walk down that hallway of no return I would probably be viewed as the stereotypical 'dark chapter' in their eyes. lol

Walking into the inquisition knowing some of the thoughts in the minds of parent's especially Mother's can be very scary. One wonders: Are they comparing you to his/her ex, will they love me or hate me, will they accept me as I am. A bottle of vodka, spiced rum and a few shots of tequila can help calm those jitters.

When it comes right down to it, all that matters is how you and the other person in your life feel. 51 and never Married? Oh well maybe Marriage may not be in the cards for you at this time, maybe you want something different. Perhaps a Traditional Hand-fasting Ceremony (which a couple hold a commitment ceremony) would be in order. This commitment may be seen as temporary and secular by some. I believe that it represents a commitment to a more intimate partnership for a limited time or for a lifetime

Enjoy your life and your wonderful son, love and respect your mother (we only ever get one). Life comes with no promises or manuals. Enjoy it, find your inspiration, and go with the flow.

Blessed Be
