The Detached Retina

Last fall my sister contacted me out of the blue found out she had a detached retina in the right eye. She had emergency surgery to fix the damage. The eye doctor said she had the same symptoms in the other eye. It was a matter of time the other one will go too. She also had cataracts in both eyes. She has lasik surgery done on her right eye. Because she could not see everything was blurred. Now she had cataract surgery in one eye and a new opaque lense put in the eye. I think she can see out of it better but not really the same as before. She will have more retina surgery, another cataract removed in the left eye. I guess it is something more to do with age that happened to her. I may have problems with my sister but do not want to think ill of her either. I was really shocked at this turn of events. Make sure you get your eyes checked regularly. You just never know when a illness strikes. Your eyes are the most important thing in life. After this crises I have been in contact with her more. She seems to be reaching out to me. She almost acts like my old sister from before. I really do not know what to think about it Just being thoughtful and shocking more than anything else.

Hi Roxy! Please follow Your advice! Eyes Are The Neatest thing until they go away! Please have Your's Checked. I heard it Follows in the Family!
Behind the Sense of Sight is The Sense of Feeling. Now that One would be Tough to Lose! Never to Feel A Raised Nipple! Never To Feel A Soft Woman. Never To Feel A Moist....... You get the Idea!

I had surgery for a detached retina of my left eye in 2000. I tried to come back too soon, didn't really follow the doctors advice and ending up having a second surgery in 2002. That was no fun. I made sure I follwed the doctor's advice, so I would recover. I tried to do too much too soon. The second surgery taught me. The first was bad enough, the second was really involved, and much worse then the first one. I learned the hard way. Doing fine now, but make sure your sister follows doctor's advice.

Hello, I bet it was no fun after going through two surgeries. It is always important to follow your doctor's advice indeed. I will tell her to do just that. Thanks for posting.

I just had a very good friend go through almost the same thing. Detached retina. He had to lay on his side for 10 days, 23 hours a day, after they pumped a nitrogen bubble into his eye to hold the reattached retina. Thank G-d he's doing great now! -tm

Hello, really we have something in common. Wow that is along time to stay on his side. I have heard that type of procedure but not sure my sister had to go through that. The only thing is she could not bend after the surgery. Thanks for posting.

My vision is deteriorating but no problem yet.

Maybe this vision scare made your sister look at her life more closely and made her realize that family is important.
