This Site Is Blocked By Some Places

I know you can block other people on this site that is one of the featured FriendFinder-x has given us. So we about that particular feature for sure. But did you know that if you use internet in certain places it can be blocked. I have known quite a while certain places like the library for example. Yes you think you may be to access it like a hotel or grocery store but in true reality you cannot access it very well. I have read someone's blog recently he tried to access it in his hotel. He had to use his mobile phone to access it. Some places you are able to acccess then others do not here. Especially you have wifi you should know the places you can access it. So please beware out there you may not get on this site if you are traveling. I think they will probably be more of this blocked feature in the future. Just being informative and thoughtful.

 Many places block not only their wireless access but also content due to legality issues of patrons/non-patrons accessing illegal child porn sites. The publicity from a search by federal authorities can ruin a business. There are so many laws and law suits anymore in effect many business are simply taking precautions

 My library has a sign by the computers for public use stating that they monitor the sites patrons are going to and that they have the right to end a session if a patron is going to an objectionable site. However, I have heard that some libraries allow going to adult-themed sites--probably those that have had lawsuits filed against them on behalf of patrons.

 Roxy, A lot of places do bloc FriendFinder-x, especially the library, and Kinko's. I agree they are losing business, but the are hung up on "morality issues". It is sad to see that in 2011, we have places acting like it is 1811.

 I'm the one that had a problem at the hotel.

The site is blocked for one of two reasons (or both).

Content (which is really the library's reason) or
Spyware (which is the hotel's reason).

Sites LIKE this, where members can download files to other members, are places where spyware is often found.

As head of an computer department, I know how shitty those hijack programs can be.

So...don't take ANYTHING from anyone you don't know. Candy from strangers philosophy...

Hello Bob, yes true on both reasons there on why the site is blocked? I guess spyware can usually sometimes be a problem. I guess the hotel or any other business can have difficulty. I guess that is something the website has to look for here. Yes true might be helpful to have a spyware program. I know I use to have one. If your computer crashes it is gone. Thanks for posting.

 not recommended. self research required. not without risk.

there are a few things you can try. instead of www.whatever.com you could try direct ip address. use one of the free host to IP online conversion tools. access a third party site which in turn routes your request to the required server, however it's getting more difficult to do this as most found out people will pay. public proxy server. anon like i use my own proxy server.

as with anything on teh internets there is risk in the use of such things. anyone hosting a public proxy can and usually does snoop so be extra careful as to what info you exchange while using.

 I have heard of places like Panera Bread blocking this site. But I would think it would be bad for business for hotels to block it. A lot of travelers use this site and could even be traveling because of it!

 It probably would be blocked in a place like a library. It can also be blocked overseas. I've never had a problem at a hotel.

If a network's firewall is set a certain way, it will use "smart filtering" to learn what websites it will let through. So you may be able to view a website one day then a few days later you won't.

It's not only "adult" websites that can be blocked. Dating websites, and social networking can be blocked as well. That has happened to me internationally but domestically those sites aren't normally an issue.

Hello, yes the smart filtering might block it. But there is a website called websense out there blocks majority of adult or porn sites. Of course you can get through it sometimes. But it is frustrating at times because they make it difficult. Yes true other sites can be blocked as well. Thanks for posting your opinion.
