empty stadiums or cancellations ?

empty stadiums or cancellations ?

should they without crowds or just not at all?
postpone? relocate? or cancel and end seasons without champions?

for example, here in philadelphia years ago, they cancelled the NYE fireworks
because of lightning danger (fireworks exhaust trails help lightning strike),
sent the crowds home for safety, but the shortly afterward,
set off the display anyway "for the tv audience".

playing to empty stadiums is rare in the us,
but nowhere near unprecedented in the rest of the world.
FIFA (the world soccer governing body)
often had teams play behind closed doors as punishment for
racial or political violence.

yes, they make more than you and i can possibly imagine,
but they work hard for it (at least hockey, football and soccer do)
but dont they still deserve the chance to complete their seasons?
especially those with chances to win championships?
and for the fans to watch on tv?
CANCEL - its just games and safety should come first
POSTPONE/RESCHEDULE/RELOCATE GAMES - the 1989 san fran/oakland world series was delayed and we survived, the phila flyers played
PLAY BEFORE EMPTY STADIUMS - the fans and players still deserve the opportunity (and distraction) of the games, as long as its n
something else im missing here - PLEASE post your view. thanx

Also President Trump said, .. “fake news media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything to inflame the coronavirus situation.”. ... That is what causes panic and hysteria, as you are going through.

tp? i havent hoarded it nor anything else - just another thing where you dont know what youre talking about, and can only rely on childish idiotic insults in the absence of facts.

YES, the "irresponsible ones" WERE the ones who downplayed the virus and thought it was "just hype".
BUT, downplaying it and calling it "just hype"
was exactly what YOU and your talking head did
    FOR TWO MONTHS.
    and insulted anyone who disagreed.

now trump has done a complete turn-around (finally, two months late)
and declared it a national emergency,
you just cant believe that he AND YOU were wrong all along, can you?
or are you saying your exalted talking head is now being "hysteric"?

either way, maybe YOU better have tp stockpiled -

tp? i havent hoarded it nor anything else ... oh cool ... just that you seem to have that panic personality thing going on.

... No because down playing it, would mean it's not real. .....But in reality....people who are reasonably healthy, do get better. There are just certain cautions everyone should be aware about to prevent community spread , endangering others who are not healthy enough to get through this virus.

now trump has done a complete turn-around (finally, two months late)
and declared it a national emergency,
.... No.... this is not a "Turn around"....he knew how serious this was 2 months ago..... that's why he acted so quickly in behalf of our safety. Look at Italy.... they did not act fast enough.

you just cant believe that he AND YOU were wrong all along, can you? ... He wasn't wrong , and CERTAINLY was not wrong.

or are you saying your exalted talking head is now being "hysteric"? .... Nope.... just you and all the others who cleaning out market shelves .

you must be shitting yourself. .... Actually, I'm not shitting myself. I'm remaining calm, as you should be doing panic-boy....and taking the necessary precautions as anyone would when avoiding a flu...... in the cold and flu season.

so whats your point? that the 900+ (so far) dont count?
by your logic, maybe the 3,000 dont count either because theyre not 15,000?
how many DO have to die before it "matters" to you?

    "paranoia"?

people are dying. how many more have to die for you to care?

and if you DO get it, even if YOU dont die,
maybe youll give it to somebody who COULD?

    sorry gramps died, gramma,
but more people die of other things,
so his death is no big deal.

"paranoia"? people are dying. ....

Yes, people do die. You have a bad case of paranoia and hysteria.

Consider this:

Each day about 3000 people die in car accidents.

This flu season about 15000 people have died from the flu.

My point was not to belittle or 'qualify' an old person's death, as being insignificant. I was highlighting the ambiguity of the information that is being distributed. It's a knee jerk reaction to a new virus.
Next year... another virus will show up.
And the year after THAT, yet another.
Does that imply that we should just pack things up? For the foreseeable future?
I'd like to think that there are other solutions than simply closing sporting events down. They haven't explored all of the options. Those leagues closing up (all of them, by the way), are harvesting paranoia and PR chips to placate the masses.
We'll see how long they and their sponsors... keep those doors closed.
some good points.
some things to think about.
thanx for your input

I just thought of something else.... (sorry for the multiple posts)
You know those shitty masks they keep telling all of us not to buy - because they don't do anything?
How's about producing masks that DO do something? 🤔
Ok... I'm done. 👍
This virus is a real mess...

im currently watching a europa league match
between LASK (linz, austria) and manchester united
being played in an empty stadium.
sure, the crowd noises are missing, but the game is just as compelling,
and the field sounds are just as captivating.
again, this is not at all unheard-of in the rest of the world,
although usually because of racial or political violence
perpetuated by the home clubs fans or the countrys politics.
this is the only reason i postulated that this might be a solution here.

the difference now is that here some of the PLAYERS are found to be infected,
so no, postponement (hopefully NOT cancellation) IS the right way to go

What if... they went about their business as usual? 🤔
The old, the frail and those who have respiratory sensitivity can stay at home.
There are over 10,000 deaths from the flu
so far, this year in the USA. Not much pub on that, is there?
Paranoia is a funny thing. I think a few people too many, watched ; I Am Legend... and... 12 Monkeys...

FOLLOWUP -

now that im hearing that some of the PLAYERS are infected,
that shifts the dynamics COMPLETELY.

cancellation now appears the way to go.

if even heathen doesnt decry it as "hysterics"
as hes done with any other warning up until now, it must be so.

I did vote my friend and you know I think everyone should stay away from huge crowds, and it's not fun playing games without people watching. I hope they can get this under control soon..I hope you have a terrific Thursday..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Playing in an empty stadium without the cheers of the fans really isn't much of a game atmosphere.

Cancelling all games , cancelling events that draw large crowds, is a safe and sane decision to limit the community spread of covid-19. May even reduce the flu cases, as well. Keep in mind the common flu kills 10's of thousands every year.

The Players and rational fans understand. Sure, they're disappointed, but they understand.

There'll be games next season, to play.

complete text of the options that were cut off -

2) POSTPONE/RESCHEDULE/RELOCATE GAMES - the 1989 san fran/oakland world series was delayed and we survived, the phila flyers played "home" games in toronto, nyork and Quebec when our arena was damaged in the 1960s

3) PLAY BEFORE EMPTY STADIUMS - the fans and players still deserve the opportunity (and distraction) of the games, as long as its not the players who are infected

please vote. thanx
