Weekend Ramblings

Happy Sunday! As most of you know, I am not a huge fan of celebrating overly commercialized holidays. Yesterday being no exception. A friend that resides several hours away and I always seem to have a conflict preventing a get together for one reason or another. The stars aligned and we were both free this weekend so we decided to impromptu rendezvous in my city.

He arrived Saturday around noon bearing gifts: a bottle of old vine zinfandel to go with dinner planned later and a beautiful purple orchid plant! A very sweet touch! We were both famished so we decided to head out for a light lunch. There is a wonderful locally-owned brewery with some excellent beers on tap so I suggested we dine there. They have amazing wood-fired pizzas so we opted on the special which included shrimp, pesto, fire roasted tomatoes and three cheeses. It was amazing!

We arrived back at my place and watched the trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey and read the reviews. I didn't hop on the bandwagon several years ago when the books were popular and never read them. Perhaps it was morbid curiosity that got the best of us. We decided to buy tickets for a late afternoon showing.

The theatre was packed. It was an interesting mix: groups of single women and couples. Let me just say that in spite of some erotic scenes, the movie was in my opinion, a huge disappointment.

As someone who has dabbled in both D/s and BDSM, I took offense with the mindset of Mr. Grey as portrayed by the author. I can understand why the movie received criticism for glamorizing domestic violence. A huge component of D/s is establishment of trust but Grey, himself a childhood abuse survivor, was a huge contradiction: sleeping in bed all night with the submissive, being photographed in public with her and showing her off to his family (all of which he supposedly doesn't do) and withholding pertinent details that influence his character. Mixed messages= huge red flag to a submissive who is expected trust a Dominant to relinquish control over to Him.

After the movie, I made an amazing dinner. Chicken marsala with linguini, fresh asparagus, garlic bread, salad and for dessert dark and white chocolate drizzled strawberries. And the wine. All in all a good ending to the day.

This morning I am perusing all of the excellent poetry submissions that have been entered into the Poetry Smackdown contest. I am having a difficult time judging because they are subjective and each worthy of the honor of winning this distinction.

How was your weekend?

xoxo {=}

What a lovely way to spend Valentine's Day...

Yesterday was a "me love" day...some grooming (facial, wax), lunch with the bestie, picking up and hanging some beautiful oils I bought that I had taken to the gallery to be stretched, a couple other errands and then the evening to myself.

I was in what I call an epiphany hangover - after the high of figuring out something big I always have a few days of moody and crabby. I think it's a result of my ego dying a little bit more and it hasn't learned how to go quietly into the night!

xoxo

Always tell the truth
Use kind words
Keep your promises
Giggle and laugh
Be positive
Love one another
Always be grateful
Forgiveness is mandatory
Try new things
Say please and thank you
Say your prayers

^5 on taking a "me" day! Pampering is always high on the agenda when I am in a state of transition with my life. I hope you were able to rest and rejuvenate.

I know a ton of people went to the movie.....but I think it's more for the novelty of it. Not sure I will bother to see it...

I made an effort to "mend fences", so to speak, and was rewarded with a good response, spent time with my kids, and had to pick up a friend in need because his truck went on the fritz. All in all, a quiet sort of day (aside from the swim meet going on all weekend.).
Sounds like you had an awesome day! Good on you!

I had a terrible weekend. Tell you why later. LOL

But I had been wondering why so many people were talking about 50 shades of grey and domestic abuse. I figured it was just ignorance on the part of the posters about the difference between B/D SM and domestic violence. Sounds like they might be right and the movie is wrong.
