FINALLY

I FINALLY went and saw 'Iron Man' today. A few thoughts:
This movie does better because the character isn't as whiny as the most Marvel heroes. Being a hero just feeds Stark's ego. He loves it. Oh, when he gets to the negatives, he'll do a little moping, but maybe we got what little of that we'll see when he went all crazy genius and built the second suit.

Another score for the movie is less focus on CGI. That was, to me, a drawback with 'Transformers'. Yes, I realize that CGI is neccessary for that movie, but fucking Micheal Bay (as was sang in 'Team America: World Police', why does he keep getting to make movies? And I miss you girl.) can't do character development or plotline. He's got to have big effects or he's sunk. I fear CGI will take something away from 'Speed Racer'. Then again, there isn't much character development to do, there. I hope I enjoy it. I grew up on it.

By the way, even guys who have made great movies can fall victim to the lure of special effects. Lucas let it ruin four out of six Star Wars movies. That, and the pure, sickly-sweet gimmicky bullshit Ewoks. Die, Ewoks!!!

Where was I?

Well, it looks like a comic book movie summer. 'The Dark Knight', 'Hellboy 2', and 'The Incredible Hulk' (not sure if it's a sequel or what, but it's surprising after the failure of 'The Hulk'. More evidence that there are no ideas left in Hollywood. I expect to see a sequel to 'Mystery Men' and a movie version of 'The Tick' next. How about live-action Ren and Stimpy?

Now, for a bit of trivia. My thumbnail was taken last year when I was working on a costume for Halloween. I was going as Nick Fury. He will be in the next Iron Man, played by Samuel L. Jackson. They can do this because there are versions of Nick as a black man, and others of him as white. Of course, I'd do the white one. If you don't know who Nick Fury is, your geek cred is hereby questioned and will most likely be revoked.

I look awesome in a blue spandex bodysuit. With lots of guns.

In your last thumbnail you looked like a very handsome black man. I don't know why, you just did! So all this time I thought you were black!!

That's what I get for being a dumb@$$ and not reading your profile.

I can be geeky...but I don't know who Nick Fury is... I missed IronMan, my kids went last weekend. I may try it out this weekend. Love the patch...you should wear it all the time, just alternate which eye you cover each day to really keep 'em guessing.
I wonder if that'll affect my vision negatively or positively....

Trivia: Pirates wore an eyepatch over one eye to keep it adjusted to the dark so they would be able to see when they had to move between being on deck and belowdecks.

I viewed that 'draggy' part as character development. I'd much rather they spend the time on that then get into the superscience bits and spend too much time on CGI scenes. They set him up as the typical millionaire playboy, gave him a shock, showed his initial reaction and then his final adjustment. It wasn't hard to do, though, but it pays to make a movie with character development and a plot rather than falling in love with the slick aspects.

And, unlike that turd 'Godzilla', they remembered that there's a song and to include it. 'Spiderman' didn't forget the song, either.

Well, you'd have to have the fortitude to glare down anyone who would dare to ask why you wear one.

It's a lot cooler to have an eye-patch of mystery than an eye-patch with an explanation.
That parts easy. I might paint a bloodshot eyeball on it.

Quibble away! Any and all of them have issues, but it's fun debating them.

RD is just more proof that no career truly dies in Hollywood. ESPECIALLY if you have talent.
