Guanella Pass

Photos of Saturdays adventure. One of my favorite things about the Rockies is the ability to watch a storm being born. The valleys surrounding the mountains fill with humidity during the day, and then these enormous fog banks 'walk up the mountain' to meet the cooler air. When they collide, a storm is born. It is always a wonder to me to be in the midst of such a volatile mix of elements. When we were leaving the summit, there were vertical bolts of lightning dancing across the road in front of us and the thunder sounded like it was sitting in the back seat of the car. I've experienced this several times in my life, it never fails to amaze me and make me realize just how vulnerable and small humans really are.
I dare say these photos will be dropped from the post, I will check back a bit later and try to get them reloaded. And I will make note of which ones I post this time too lol.

I spent a lot of time in the Northern Rockies, nearly a year. I miss the place, miss the wildness, and the ruggedness of the land and the people there.

Makes me homesick looking at your photos( I grew up in Denver) and have hot air ballooned in Boulder. Garden of the Gods is a MUST visit if anyone is going that way

Thank you. The plan is to return either late Spring or early Summer and spend a full week or two, hopefully in a cabin instead of a hotel. Mueller State Park, do you know of the place?

While you're here, don't forget Estes Park and the little state park called Roxborough. If you liked Garden of the Gods, you'll love Roxborough!

I will add them to the list! I swear even if I lived there, it would take me years to experience all I want to in Colorado, lol.

So this is how it's going to be huh? When I get back from vacation, I'll be WAY behind on your photos! (But at least they'll be up to stay at that point. )

Lovely photos, and amazing descriptions too.
