frugal wins

So here has been my excitement. Walking fields and collecting corn that got missed. I guess I never realized how much got missed. Amazing how much I have found. So far about 15 buckets, with more to come. I have a hand sheller and a small grinder. So what does this have to do with being frugal? Well I take the corn over to a local neighbor and am trading it for meat and eggs. So with some work I should have fresh eggs for awhile. Oh just for your information. A bag of corn this spring was about 6 dollars its now going for 16 dollars. See where meat prices are going to go?

in economics class {way back} they talked about the corn[chicken} thing, which amounted to corn prices are high, too high to feed the livestock {chicken, cows, etc}, so more stock is sold off at not so great prices, but then the next round there is less stock so corn is lower but there is less stock to feed because of the selling off previously so the stock is high, never ending bad cycle especially considering the gross stupidity of using food as fuel sources
And you are correct in that prices do go through cycles of up and downs depending on other factors. However even the farm reports are starting to suggest that the price of a Turkey for Thanksgiving may be double what you paided for this next year. Really still can not understand why this whole sham of using good corn for fuel has not been stopped.

There are 100 things better than corn in making ethanol. but people dont relate to those things.

I think it was Bush Jr who introduced 'switchgrass' as a way to make ethanol. The people were like. WTF is switchgrass? I dont know if switchgrass is a good choice or not, but i know one thing that makes sense.

You dont make you food into fuel! That is just asking for trouble on multiple levels.
I agree, if you use a food source then use something not so important like sugar cane or sugar beets, which both make more ethanol than corn. If they harvested the corn while the whole plant was green it would make more. I just think the time has come to stop using an important food source for fuel. There are other better choices.

    Its $16 a bag! OMG!

Tell me thought on why corn priced are too high.

My thoughts: Diesel pricing are up. More corn is being converted to ethanol than food. Too many corporate farm controlling the the prices. And rumor has it, some farms are actually hoarding the corn.
True, but then also take the people that are burning it for heat. Corn for bio fuel is a terrible idea. Sugar beets produce more Ethanol than corn given the same area. But once again its those Wizards in DC that come up with this stuff!
