two friends two paths

So I got the call today, more texted today that a former friend had died this morning from covid. Just a couple of days before my next door neighbor was found dead at his Home. Funny how paths can differ over time. My buddy Ed was a colorful guy. You knew where you stood with him! He was retired, but still worked. He was the guy you wanted watching your back.

A mutual friend of my other friend contacted me about her getting covid and her sliding down hill. We broke up on bad terms. She took me for some Money and other things. We met in a silly way from a friend of mine that hauled steel. We seemed like a great team, but the cracks slowly appeared over time. When the end came it ended with a thud! I think she was surprised that I just walked away. My resentment had been building for several months and the final straw did it.

Funny to think about how good friends can turn to old friends then no friends. How others are like a great pair of shoes. Comfortable, worn and trusted. Almost no thought or work to make that friendship work. My last two friendships started with great promise, just to nose dive. I think I have lost my touch in picking friends. I must be getting soft in my old age, or my sight is going and I miss seeing the clues.

Sorry to hear you have lost a few friends to covid as well. So many in my own circle have died to covid or the complications of the virus.

It's hard the older we get the more we are around death. It drags us down and makes us look at our own lives. The memories, the laughter, the hard times, and what we all may or may not take for granted.
Life is too short to hold grudges, like you said it is just easier to say your piece and walk away.

The older we get the harder it is to make friends. We stop trusting people at word value. We see the bigger picture.

Many prayers to you and your loved ones this Merry Christmas Season.
Stay healthy and safe out there.

It does get harder the older you get to make friends. Lol the bullshitters never seem to die. Billy Joel did say, only the good die young! Even so its hard to forget the good times.
