Is turnabout fair play? I don't think so.....

My 's hockey team played a very late game Tuesday night, against the number one team in their league. Currently we are rated number two in the league. So, even though it was a very late game on a week night, I was looking forward to it. It should have been a fun game right?

Our came to play hockey, and they worked hard. This would have been fun, but then the officials started calling penalties. I don't get too excited by a couple of bad calls because it works itself out in the end. However, on this night that didn't happen. They waived off our goal, and continued to call penalties that were very questionable. Twice we were short 2 guys, and still managed to keep the other team from scoring. Parents from the other team apologized for the poor officiating of the game. I'm sure they wanted to see the two teams play as well. Anyway, we lost 2-0. The played well, so the parents all stood and clapped after the game. Our skated with sticks up (like it was a win), recognizing that we knew they worked hard.

Then, last night we had a game, albeit not as late and against a team that was much lower in the standings. Apparently the officials were warned of our game the previous evening, and that one of our coaches received a one day suspension. So, what do you think happens? They call ridiculous penalties against the other team. If two skaters came into any physical contact a penalty was called on the other team. Two skaters from the other team were sent to the locker room, and we ran out of ice time before the end of the third period from all the stoppages in play. We won 5-1, but I'd rather play a fair game where actual penalties are assessed when someone does something that is against the rules. Don't try to make up for the poorly called game the night before, by punishing someone else.
