The red dragon and my brown thumb

Yeah, I know, ewww gross....amp;, but hell, it's all part of being a girl and such. Ever since I hit that marvelous puberty wonderment I've had really terrible cramps one magical time a month. When I was a younger I'd take that first day off from school, it was that painful. Unfortunately as an adult with the responsibilities and such, no matter how shitty I feel, I can't take it off from work.
I don't know why they get so bad, and midol and tylenol can only ease the pain so much. When I went into labor with my first I actually said to the Doctor, "Oh, this is it? It feels just like I'm having my period." It did get a bit worse than that obviously with the actual birth and stuff, but the contractions and such for the first several hours, it felt just like what I go through every month.
I've tried a bunch of different things to make it a bit better, hot packs, long hot showers, sipping a beverage with high alcoholic content, sex, medication. It all helps a bit, but no big relief for long. Anywho, I thought I'd ask the girls here if they have anything that helps them, and the guys if they do anything nice for the womens in their life when they're going through the not nicest part of their month.

On a different note, I got half of my garden planted today, and yesterday I did a full flower garden. I had to cover it because it's been kinda cold at night, but it's gonna be really pretty in a little bit I think. Now if I can keep the midgets from picking the flowers...
I'm trying something new with some vegetables this year called "Sister gardening" that my friend found online. I did a few circle mounds and put corn in the center, peas and beans around them to climb the stalks, and then vine vegetables like zucchini, squash, cucumbers and pumpkins around the bottoms so that the leaves keep the mounds moist and weed free. It sounds like a good idea, so I'm giving it a shot. Got any good gardening tips for me?

I have fibroids, and I am in the peak of menopause, so my period is one of those 'now you see it, now you don't' affairs. It can be MIA for three months, then show up and last for 15 days or more. I never know what to expect.
Chamomile tea with a bit of comfry helps for cramps, for severe cramps Valerian root can be a god-send. Make the root into a tea, you can flavor it with a bit of ginger and honey.
Gardening advice...
MULCH is your friend!
Composting is never a bad idea, coffee grounds are good for hydrangeas and hostas.
A simple trick to keep birds and rabbits out of your garden is to take two aluminum pie pans and tie them together near the garden on a stake or a tree limb, the banging and the flashing of the pans will spook animals away from your plants.
Miracle grow and other fertilizers should be used, but a weak mix used once every other week seems to produce the best results for me. Milkweed is a devastating plant and it can destroy a flowerbed in nothing flat, so at the first sign, get it out of your garden. The main taproot will reproduce the plant so you have to dig deep to get all of the tap if you can. Its worse than dandelions!
Hope this is all news to you
I like the sister garden idea, I am going to have to try that next year!

Gardening tips... shake crushed red peppers around to border of your garden (the scent scares away several animals). Plant marigolds around the perimeter as well their scent deters some insects and animals as well. Sister gardening works rather well, I have done it a couple times. Go to your local city compost site and mix a bunch into your soil. It's usually free and provides loads of nutrients for your plants. Also get the good brands of fertilizer, nothing makes you want to pull your hair out more then having your garden fail after all that work because you used poor fertilizer. If you purchase special hybrid seeds or seedlings on line DO NOT buy a lot! (I had one year I over did it and got 15 tomato plants thinking it wouldn't be a problem. For a whole week I brought in and canned 3 laundry baskets of tomatoes.)

You know what might help with your cramping? You could always try not being such a baby. Man up already

I am so glad you said it was gardening tips! Shaking crushed red pepper around the other "garden" would hurt like hell! Though the smell might frighten "animals" away...

Birth control helped with cramps, but made me a complete wreck emotionally. The shot...it made me gain 100 pounds within 2 years. I will never go on it again. I was constantly starving. Ugh. Anywho, yeah, the Dr. I guess I should go...... eventually.
