What would be the worst and best three-course meal you could eat? I can't really answer so here are some of the worst things I have eaten -- Sauerbraten, overcooked calamari, the texture reminded me of chewing on rubber bands, pickled tripe, offal from the stomachs of either cows or pigs, I used to eat this as a child, but never knew what it was and now that I do, I don't find it at all appetizing.

Best things to eat, chicken pot-pie a.ka. chicken and dumplings in the south, and cheesecake-- I may have lost my recipe, a good one takes hours to make and is left standing in the oven for at least three hours when through baking.

And what would be the best and worst drinks to have with a meal? I like sarsaparilla or birch beer, worst ever-- moxie -- Moxie's flavor is unique, as it is not as sweet as most modern soft drinks and is described by some as bitter. Moxie is flavored with gentian root extract, an extremely bitter substance which was reputed to possess medicinal properties. It originated around 1876 as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food".

Can you make a roux sauce? I can and your cauliflower cheese looks delicious. I just ate courgette/zucchini yesterday, pan fried. It is best cut into spears, dipped in beer batter and deep fried, served with parmesan cheese and ranch dressing.

Let's be friends, invite me over to dine with you one day Hugh.
I can't eat calamari or offal. The texture of the food to be eaten is almost as important as its taste for me.
If and when you come over for dinner, it'll be cauliflower cheese!

I've never eaten octopus. Apart from prawns, I'm not a big fan of seafood!

What would be the worst and best three-course meal you could eat?

The worst would be: Onion soup (I can't stand the texture of a boiled onion!), followed by a fatty, greasy, messy entree, and cookies of any kind.

The best is Bouillabaisse, lamb chops with tangy mint sauce and creme-brulee.

And what would be the best and worst drinks to have with a meal?

The best would be nice wine appropriate to a dish. The worst - any kind of beer.

Can you make a roux sauce? Yes, I can.
Bouillabaisse is delicious!

Both meals seems equally good. I happen to love beet juice, so none of that would have bothered me. I equally love fish.
Ah, well, this enemy must have known what you hated and put it all in one meal.

Best 3 course meal? Citrus salad with wild greens, a flash grilled Ahi completely raw in the middle, a raspberry sorbet at the end.
Worst? A salad made of iceberg lettuce with bleu cheese dressing and croutons, Blutwurst, Drippy custard that is undercooked.
Best drink? A nice Italian Barrolo, with a great pasta with red sauce with meat.
Worst drink? Clam juice by itself.
Can you cook a roux? Yes, I can and have in the past. Maybe this next week, I will again!
    Great post,
    Kk
As a child, I was brought up on alads, which probably explains why I'm not fond of them. Salads are for other people to eat!

I don't know which of you is posting, so I'll just say you are phenomenal!

Oh, I type too slowly to really do the first two questions any justice.
But you already know that *I* know how to make at least 2 varieties of culinary napalm.

There's something from Sun Tzu intertwined in your post. I like it.
Thanks for your kind words!
I'm the man of the couple; my partner doesn't blog - she's too busy cooking food!
Thanks for stopping by.

What would be the worst and best three-course meal you could eat?
The best...veal chops lightly browned with onions and balsamic vinegar served with roasted asparagus with lemon and dill sauce and potatoes au gratin with truffle oil. The worst....all vegetarian. I love vegetables but not as three course meal!

And what would be the best and worst drinks to have with a meal?
The best...water and your favorite wine (makes no difference in types). The worst-- anything that hinders the flavors of the meal.....Beet juice or Smoothie types drinks come to mind.

Can you make a roux sauce?
Yes...I can it blonde or coffee color...depending on the sauce I make!
Despite what it does to my pee, I love eating asparagus!

I've never heard of witlof, but I've just looked it up. I don't like chicory either. Chicory coffee, once popular here, is disgusting!

The enemy bit of this post was a figment of my imagination. Eating with my enemy wouldn't be a comfortable or pleasant experience at all!

I would have complained if they had served lobster but I definitely wouldn't complain if they had served filet mignon, one of my favourites!
