AND WHEN DID YOU LAST SEE YOUR FATHER
|
What a wonderful eulogy. What words would you use to describe your father? He was a hard working , tireless man and I miss him greatly

I last spoke to my Dad April 27th 2005. The next morning he had a massive stroke while I was at work. I went to the cemetery to pay my respects today.

Tennyson's poem is a beautiful poem to recite at your Dad's funeral. I know it's a cliche but, though they're dead, they do live on in our minds and hearts.

Life is never the same when our parents have gone!

I never saw enough of my Father. By that, I mean he sadly died when he was just 48 years old (heart attack) and I was just 14. I can remember him as a firm but fair, hard working, family man.

Possibly March 31st 1960 or maybe on April 1st the same year. He went to work that morning for PP&L (Pennsylvania Power and Light) and never came home. He fell 40 feet and was DOA at St. Lukes. His belt either broke or he forgot to close it again when he leaned back, after deciding to check his work one more time, before descending the pole. He'd been all over the Pacific in the war. I'm trying to piece that together and I'm going to write for his military records now. He had service medals from Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima among other places, as he served prior to the US being involved and through to the end and then Korea as well. I have the front page from a Philly newspaper showing him signing up at age 16 in 1939 (I think that is the date, may have been '37) He was a marine and a sharpshooter and sniper; it had taken a toll on him. He came home alcoholic and had suffered from Malaria and trench foot as well. All that and then to be killed on the job. There are no pictures of me and my Dad. I've asked my sister Jo to look for any she may have. I have no memory of him whatsoever. He was a very handsome man. I may just write a post and post photos as well. I'm glad you have some wonderful memories of your Dad S. Thanks for sharing them. xo

Lovely. My dad was open to life and always educating. I do the same with my children.
