WE’RE ALL (NOT) GOIN’ ON A SUMMER HOLIDAY   ”We’re all goin’ on a summer holiday” is the opening line of Cliff Richard’s hit song, Summer Holiday. The problem is that I’m not going on a summer holiday mainly because of the ongoing covid pandemic! Last year my wife and I hoping to go a delayed honeymoon to Tanzania in Africa, with a week on safari in the Serengeti National Park and another week taking it easy in Zanzibar, an island off mainland Tanzania and the birthplace of Freddie Mercury. But because of coronavirus we decided to take short break in Skegness on the Lincolnshire coast, colloquially known as Skeggie, the nearest seaside resort to where we live in Nottingham, and to go honeymoon this summer. But again because of coronavirus, that isn’t going to happen. Because prices for UK-based holidays have skyrocketed, and often booked up well in advance, and because of the complexities of holidaying abroad, often involving quarantining here and abroad, we’re not going on a summer holiday this year. We’ll be listening to a lot of Cliff Richard instead! Above and below is where we went on holiday last summer and where we wanted to go on holiday last summer and this summer. I hope you can spot the difference between Skeggie’s Pleasure Beach and a Zanzibar beach and between Skeggie’s and the Serengeti’s animals! Maybe next year! Have you been on or are you planning a summer holiday this year? If so, where did you or where are you planning to go? Do you say holiday or vacation? It’s holiday not vacation, otherwise Madonna’s Holiday hit song wouldn’t sound right. Just imagine Madonna singing the opening lines, “Vacation, Celebrate, Vacation, Celebrate, If we took a vacation, Took some time to celebrate”; it just wouldn’t have charted!     |

I've not had a proper holiday in over two years  Skeggy would suit me fine.We're going to get a load more 'emmets' down in Cornwall this Summer, no doubt.

I haven't been on a vacation in years, and don't know when we will be able if ever to do that. Thanks for sharing part of your short vacation with us. I hope you both get to take that long over do honeymoon real soon.. And may you both a sexy fun filled hump day.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Pleasure Beach seems like a good place for a vacation! Basically we're making all the trips we had planned for last year this year. Happy HNW. I tend to take my summer holiday in the Fall. Hot weather will find me at a local lake (we have lots). September weather is usually nice but not as hot and more comfortable - for me - to travel. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

We try to do some camping in the summer but last year was a no-go....going to go next week for a few days! Vacation is when we travel and the last time was in 2019.

I want a decent vacation but you are right - everything is booked or doubled in price. So no holiday for us this summer. Maybe a quick getaway in the fall.

I have a similar thought. I am too old  to take a chance, one more season won't hurt me. After all we are depending on politicians guidance, and we know what that is worthHave you been on or are you planning a summer holiday this year? Not this year. If so, where did you or where are you planning to go? My place in Puerto Rico is almost always the destination. Do you say holiday or vacation? Vacation of course

I'd love to have a cabin by a lake to go to. I love playing on water, especially rowing a boat or paddling a canoe.

None of the mainstream covid vaccines involve gene therapy. The main problem going abroad where I live is not so much fear of getting covid - I'm not fearful of that not least because I've been double-jabbed, it's the ever-changing restrictions on where the British government allow us to go with or without quarantine and on the ever-changing restrictions imposed by other governments of countries I want to go to. Though the number of covid cases are rising fast here despite most adults being vaccinated - hospital admissions and deaths are starting to rise. I can see Freedom Day not lasting long.
