QUEER ART AND A DILEMMA 1. Keith Haring  2. Solomon Simeon  3. David Hockney  Above and below is a selection of queer art. Queer art is art about issues, particularly gender and sexuality, relating to the so-called lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender+ (LGBT+) community and/or is art produced by the members of the LGBT+ community. Apart from the art itself, which is often suggestive, rude and vibrant, what I like about queer art is how the word queer has been appropriated by the LGBT+ community. Once a term of abuse is increasingly used as a term of defiance, pride and celebration. However, queer art is far from new; art has always been an important site in which lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender+ artists have expressed themselves. It just was not called queer art. What work of queer art do you like most? And what work of queer art do you like least? What advice would you give on the dilemma below? Moving to the dilemma that recently came my way. One of my grandkids has recently started to wear nail varnish. He has even gone to school with varnished nails and is now being bullied at school because of his nails. I am not saying he is queer - he is only nine years old, but what is interesting are the reactions of his family to him wearing nail varnish. All, except me, tell him not to wear nail varnish. A few are worried that he is gay. One uncle even said he will make sure that he does not turn out gay! I am the only person saying that there is no problem with him wearing nail varnish and the problem is the bullying at school. Queermuseu is a Brazilian exhibition of queer art. When it first opened in Porto Alegre, it was forced to shut down after Santander ended its sponsorship of the exhibition in the wake of far-right protests. The museum’s curator received over 100 death threats. After a crowdfunding campaign, Queermuseu successfully reopened in Rio de Janeiro. There are plans to soon establish Queer Britain, the country’s first LGBT+ museum.

I love the colors and movement in the Raphael Perez painting, I'll have to look for more of him thank you! I agree with you that it's far more important to stop the bullying that it is to worry about the sexual effects of nail varnish.

Ugh, I really feel for your grandson. Wearing nail polish is such a harmless little experiment and then to be bullied and have only one family member supporting him…  Like someone else said, my perception has been that kids these days are more accepting of alternative styles, but I guess it only takes a few to bully. #5 is kind of fun because it looks like a painting from long ago, but then you notice the Apple laptop…perhaps he is relaxing after jerking off to some porn, lol.

This is some very interesting art you have shared with us I didn't even know it existed until now. I think it is quite unique and looks like the Artists here have great skills. Thanks for sharing it with us, and I hope your Monday is a great start to your week.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I'm not familiar with queer art. I like several of the ones you shared. Bullying is wrong. I wanted my kids to be true to themselves. And I also taught them to protect themselves. Lock doors. Walk with a buddy. Avoid things that encourage stupid people to harass or bully you. It's not fair that we sometimes have to hide ourselves and our exploration. However if I know I will get attacked for my choice, I need to decide if it is worth it. It's wrong but I can only control me. Let the kid wear the nail varnish. It's harmless. Maybe he can choose to only wear it at home. His choice if it is worth it to wear at school. Especially since it is already obvious that the school is NOT going to protect him. Not a good situation for a boy wanting to explore boundaries. Not much different than a woman dressing very modestly to avoid men drooling down her cleavage. Or driving herself to meet a date. She is protecting herself and avoiding confrontation. She has to choose what is worth the attention and hassle. Oh to live in a world where we can all just be ourselves with others accepting us. Wouldn't it be lovely?

I like # 9 the best Spunky! It's amazing how many families I know that have a child, sometimes two that has openly expressed their sexual preferences and have been accepted and supported by the whole Fam. Something that would never have happed in the past. As far as wearing nail polish, I do get a few remarks from follow sailors when I walk down the dock, but their wives love it.

Doron Landberg has prduced some very hot art! All bullying is bad, but bullying of kids is particularly bad as they are often least able to handle it.

He's an Israeli painter; most of his art is just as vibrant.

I very much like abstract art. Mark Rothko is my favourite abstract artist. I agree with you that people need to be more acceting, though attitudes have shifted there's still a long way to go.

I remember many years ago when I wore an Alice band, because of my long-ish hair, to play football I was teased mercilessly. Now many footballer wear Alice bands and it has cecome a fashion accessory for many men.
