I am sad for you. These young folks wanting to get tanned so much do not realize what they are doing to their skin in the long run. When they get older, if they don't get cancer, the will look like prunes.

What a valuable post !!!!
It could turn out to be a life saver for some people on here

Have had surgery a couple of decades ago, one of my boyfriend found it and since than I have my boyfriends check my skin regularly!
Despite of that, I also visit a dermatologist once a year, just to make sure they didn't overlook anything

Have never been a fan of sitting or laying out in the sun, especially with lily white skin. That said I have spent 50 years out in the sun because of the nature of my work so factor 50 it is these days. Do hope your recovery goes well & they did manage to get all of the dreaded C removed.

What a horrible experience but I'm glad they got all the cancer! I just saw my derm last week for a strange mole on my scalp but it was just that... a mole. Hopefully your story will convince people to have spots checked out, and hope you heal quickly!

I can relate to this, as for many years I would stay in the sun, at work or play. I noticed a small black spot right in the midle of my lower back. I had an apt to see my Personal Dr in a week so when I got to see hin I told him that I thought I had a bad spot on my back, no pain ,no itch , really didnt know it was there .. Any way. within 30 min he had me at a surgen to remove a chunk of my back the size of a tablespoon.. It turned out bad and had to go back for more skin removal and testing, it was painful, it was expensive..
to say I have now a different view of the sun is an understatement, Be careful, it can do you harm.. It took me almost 3 months before I could lay on my back, the place still looks like I was operated on with a machette. But they got it all along with a lot of lympth nodes under my arms, and that was the worst part of it, they like to have never got well..
So again you sun lovers, you are playing russian roulette with your body, take heed!!!

I need to start seeing a dermatologist. I was sun burned too many times. I hope you are healed and healthy now.

Glad that you could share what happened to you.
Thank you for spreading the word on how important your skin is.

I also had a spot on my scalp that was a melanoma that was found by my dermatologist. Since we moved to south Texas I have been to the dermatologist for yearly checks that spotted this brown spot and ended up having it removed. Mine did take a long time to heal - which I understand is common with the scalp.

There is an up side to the yearly visits - I get a kick from having a man (non spouse) check my body.

Hope all goes well.
