 They are the future and we had best see to it they are knowledgeable rather than ignorant as we/they can't afford that mistake and the results. Teaching people to think is no small gift.

 Yes. If she's really into roller derby, she'll just love this movie.
It's about a young girl (too young) who wants to join a roller derby team after watching on for the first time, but her mom wants her to be in beauty pageants.
The cast is great! And Drew Barrymore directed.
Look it up!

 You are an excellent role model for her to emulate. I'm sure the experience in DC will be rewarding for her as well as memorable.
You are so right about our changing directions and society in general.
I shake and worry at the thought of the next four years.

 Sorry I'm so late to the party. I appreciate this story very much.

Communicating with young people with intelligence and consideration teaches them how to communicate as adults. There is no need to dumb it down -- doing so only hinders development.

Six years ago my daughter was 10, and I remember similar conversations with her then. Today she has excelled beyond most of her peers -- more than one teacher has commented that she writes well composed emails. They appreciate messages that make sense, that are comprehensible.

More personally, you and I share political perspectives. The woman's march was a powerful day, followed by others, and to be followed by more. We will turn this place around. We will.

 Your Niece is a very fortunate young lady to have such a caring Aunt. I was more raised by my Aunts then my Mom, God love her, and I am very grateful to have had them in my formative years. Hope all has worked out well with her ambitions and desires.
