I can certainly understand how you feel, there is an immense amount of loneliness that falls from getting a whole lot less attention than you'd like from the person that means the most. Still, for what it's worth, it does sound to me like this is a weird and crazy time for both of you. However, it also sounds to me like you are still very near and dear to his heart, and as things return to normal I foresee your patience being rewarded. In the meantime, I hope you are feeling better, and goodness gracious good luck with your appointments!
