Most Romantic Moments You Can Remember

There are moments in all of our lives that we remember with total clarity, many of mine are because I was scared at the moment, but there are some that have lasted through the eons of time because they were super romantic (at least to me).

What are some of your romantic moments?

My first one is from 7th grade. George and I had crushes on each other, but were terrified of it. It was the first school dance, it was getting late and he hadn't danced with me yet. His best friend John comes over and tells me to dance with him, he'll fix everything. He slow dances me over to George, who is standing alone and hands me off to him saying "sure it's alright if you cut in." And that is how George and I became an item for the next two years. His sweaty palms, trembling self and I.

On a crisp autumn afternoon during my senior year of high school, I sat for hours on a log talking to a teacher I had the world's largest crush for. We talked about life, where we wanted to be ten years down the road. And we discussed the what ifs.

Same teacher, sometime later in senior year, at a theme dance, we're dressed as a greaser and his girl. The music for Ringo Starr's "You're Sixteen" comes on and he grabs my hand and twirls me onto the dance floor telling me that he thinks of me everytime he hears this song. He pronounces it "our song."

Fast forward to senior year of college. The faculty of my former high school are having a talent show of sorts (I think some would say it was a lack of talent show). Same teacher from the last two paragraphs is performing "Walking in a Winter Wonderland." His eyes are fixed on me the entire time he's singing. After the show he asks me what I was thinking about while he sang, and tells me he was thinking about us "conspiring in 'Lancer Lot' about our future." Yep, that same crisp autumn afternoon that had meant so much to me, was also in his bag of memories. My heart was aflutter, except there was someone else standing there with us, smiling politely all the time we'd been talking. And now, she chose as a good time to step in. "Hi, I'm Betsy. Phil has told me so much about you." And there was the reality, while I was busy trying to grow up; there was Betsy, the woman I had heard all about. I think she is what some men call a "safety net." His agreement with her was they'd marry each other if neither one of them was married by 30. And that is what he did. He eloped with her about three weeks after I told him I had gotten married.

Brotherhood Winery 1979, Mmmmmmmmmmmm, the tour, the wine, the walk around the grounds, talking for hours, our first kiss, and then the second, third, and a hundred more.

Being given a can of Pepsi (with caffeine and salt and real sugar) after the birth of my first baby. I know, it doesn't sound like much, but it was Sunday at 4AM and we were in a hospital, in a town that went to sleep for the weekend. All I wanted was to hold my and have a Pepsi. My husband somehow found me one.

The roses sent to me at work. Oh, what a stir they caused. It was such fun!

Cards, cards and more cards. Stop with the cards! So, of course, more cards and even more cards until the office was filled with cards and the dart board from the emotional care package. Oh, and of course his gorilla (that I'll never pass on).

Rosita's
River Station
Brass Anchor
Brass Anchor again
Applebee's
Sorry readers, just the names of those places evoke the romantic memories for me. No need to explain.

A summer picnic, a blanket, a hot July sun, lovers entwined....
A fire, table for two, king crab legs, fingers touching, giggles...
Lunch overlooking the river, a walk hand in hand, sweaty sex, followed by spooning, and carressing, and a surprise entrance....

A random public display of affection, a grab at my tush.

A female coworker and I had been on a small day trip to see some of our board members. We stopped at a famous restaurant overlooking the Ohio River. We had each driven separately because after lunch she was traveling about 100 to visit with her father who was in the area on business. I was standing by her car door wishing her a great weekend when she asked me to come along. I said I didn't pack anything because I wasn't expecting to be gone for the weekend and how would she explain me to her father. She said she would tell him that I was her boyfriend and we could share the room her father had reserved for her. I said I would feel a bit awkward about it, especially without any luggage.

She drove west and I drove east. As I was driving, I was thinking about how much I wished I had gone along with her. Within a week, we were living together.

Although we'd known each other for over four years and in that time had done plenty of stuff together socially, our first visit to Brotherhood Winery is considered our first date. And for years there after, we made yearly sojourns in autumn, as a sort of anniversary.

We fondly remember the tour guide that showed us aroound year after year using the same speech and spontaneous quips. I still like a glass of "Holiday" on Christmas Eve.

And "Holiday" makes a great glaze on a Christmas ham.

The best glass of wine I ever consumed, was one that I licked off my lover.
