Are you still using a flip phone with a 1-9 dial keypad, where 2 = a,b,c, 3= d,e,f and so on? If that's how you're "texting" that's the king of all phone upgrades right there!

Yup I have an old flip phone. Nope not really interested in getting a "smart" phone. Why you may ask - because I had a "smart" phone for a job I had - I hated it (the phone). OK the job had a number of sucky aspects too. I will be upgrading to a better newer flip phone.

Meanwhile, I'll be doing the floors here this summer And installing a better garage door too.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

To generalize and say 'everything' would be cheating. But if I were to pick one item, THAT would be a stretch; there's gotta be half a dozen. It really depends on the time of day, doesn't it? 🤔

Mornings, I'm apt to seriously consider a new car; and I mean seriously! By midday, if I'm standing by reflective glass, I can seriously see myself in an upgraded wardrobe, and I mean fucking seriously!
Evenings, are for those moments when I seriously consider throwing out my fridge and stove; yeah, in a non-joking manner.

It comes down to the fact that they ALL still work fine for me; they do an almost very good job!

Either that or I'm fucking lazy. ❗❗😎

I am guilty of the old vehicle. She is a 91 toyota 4X4 but she will do until I retire. Then its sell the houses, and the truck and move to either Portugal, Southern France, Greece or back to Italy. I will buy a new vehicle then.

I admire people who come from humble origins. (I do as well).

I am not too materialistic but I keep a cedar chest filled with new clothes. I do not even use a cell phone but have a new Samsung with no service (probably strange I know). I upgraded my computer. I like my old running shoes.

My hair. I usually keep it in Willie Nelson braids, if I am in the world, but even then it is about to my waist at this point. Out of braids it is just long and wild. Probably seen as a fashion statement that needs an upgrade?, to everyone but me... It is something different to me...

I also had a couch for a very long time, WTF springs and all... Haha.

I do have silverware... Actually cheaper in the long run... I heard a song where he said he was so poor he used paper plates, and this seemed like fallacious, as paper plates are actually more expensive? At least I think so.

I don't know if I even answered the question. lol.

Jules,
Loved this post as well. Like many growing up in a frugal family because things were tight. My father and grandfather took 7 years to remodel the house we grew up in. Because we couldn't afford to hire anyone so the 2 of them did it evenings, weekends etc.... Lived in an unfinished basement for years with siblings. Too think that green shag carpet was an upgrade back in the day compared to raw particle board floors is actually quite humorous.
I finally took the time to upgrade a 20 year old 300,000 mile truck. Still went used because I couldn't justify buying brand new. 2 years in I miss the old one and the new one has so many hidden issues that are starting to reveal themselves I'm already thinking I need an upgrade again lol.

I was holding on to a glass that I use to drink my milk at lunch time that I inherited from my Grandmother. My wife said to me "this is a jelly jar, for heavens sake get rid of it and get a real glass". I held on to it for years until it got broken in the dishwasher. I got over it and upgraded.

Lol @ Ginger! I'm glad I'm not the only one whose bra creaks!!! That's a telltale sign I need an upgrade, when I can creak out a little ditty by flexing my biceps!

Yeah, it's time.

If I had to pick one blogger to have a flip phone Red, it would be you. lol. I don't know why, just figured you would have one.

And the flip phone works quite well for the purpose of talking to certain beautiful women and asking them out. That would be you.

...ha... most of us have that dreaded disease... look around your abode.....

....staring right at me in the living room is an old model stereo stack system complete with cassette deck.... now if only I could find a cassette where the tape doesn't break the moment you try to play it..... but just so you don't all think that I have gone mad... I'm mad I tell you I'm mad..... there is a very sweet turntable on top of the stack... and the whole thing is wired to two speakers with some serious kick.... so my, ahem, record collection, does not sit there completely forlorn and abandoned... my Bose mp3 player has as much kick, but somehow the snap crackle and pop of the needle scraping against vinyl has a warm nostalgic appeal that I just can't part with.... so the madness remains.....

....carpe diem....

In my realm... everything and nothing..... house and car for sure but in the end.... will that really bring happiness?

I am in the process of building a new house and I really should get a new car but....

New things have no soul..... I love my older vehicles, but I really like some of the modern technology in vehicles (ie. heated seats and steering wheel, hands-free phone, massage seats)

I have an old (10-15 year old) home theater system, but I like the compactness of the new technology, even though the sound is not as good.

Some of my avid golfer friends change their clubs yearly (or more) always wanting the latest technology for a competitive edge. Me I just enjoy being out there with my friends.

So change just for the sake of change is not always necessarily better. But what do I know..... *hugs*

What needs a much needed upgrade in your world?

My 2012 laptop that runs on WIndows 7
My PlayStation 1 that I've had since 2000
My acoustic guitar with a tiny crack at the bottom

I guess I am a simple person who doesn't need to upgrade much and also tends to be sentimental. However, sometimes an upgrade is required.

My baseball team needs an upgrade with their stadium

I finally moved on from iPhone to Pixel because the memory on the phone kept shrinking with every upgrade which made taking photos and videos a hassle.

Also got new swimming trunks since I actually lost weight during the pandemic

So you wear tighty-whiteys?
I do have a couple boxer briefs that are not good enough for work or working out but good enough for a lazy day on the sofa

Upgrades? Hell, like you I grew up poor. When my parents moved out of their house to a retirement community the 1948 Frigidaire refrigerator was still working ,
I"m thinking of replacing the almond colored oven and refrigerator, but, they still work. Is this the result of our ever changing culture and keeping up with the new and improved?

My cell phone is 5 yrs old, works fine. Should I upgrade to a 5g phone? Or is the question, do I really need the 5g phone?

I'm so confused.

Learning the art of acceptance seems to be a concept that many no long understand or contemplate. Being poor meant we enjoyed what we had and didn't dwell much on what we wanted.

Oh well, on to the new and improved.
