Cancer Sucks

One in two people will develop cancer. Scary statistics!

I am heartbroken, trying to process the bad news I received earlier tonight.

I found that one of my best and long-time friends has been diagnosed with her third type of cancer. She's been through breast cancer, subsequently diagnosed with bone cancer and now brain cancer. She's already had brain surgery and has a long road ahead. She is one of the strongest people I know and has faced her cancer journey with grace and dignity.

Please don't take life for granted. It can be snatched from you in the blink of an eye.

There were 6 of us, me and five sisters! If u asked any of us who our favorite was, it was Jackie. She always had long black hair, past her waist, drove a 73 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, 40 degrees, top down, her hair to the wind!
We teased her with a "Dumb Blonde" with black hair, kind of ditzy, but a computer for a brain and would give u the shirt off her back!
She taught me to dance and tie a tie.
We lost her to breast cancer in 2004, she was 57. Her biggest upset was loosing her hair, it came back but never the same!
A few years ago I discovered "Wig for Kids" I let my hair grow past my shoulders and donated it in her name.
My prayers are with you and your friend, God Bless!

Wishing the best possible outcome to your friend.

Lost two cousins to cancer this year. And one of those cousins lost his twin sister to cancer 20 years ago. As you say, it touches just about everyone.

I agree with you a very nasty disease: My Sweetie developed pancreatic cancer and it wasn't found until it was already 4th stage. She fought it with the known resources and lasted 10 months. I pray one day a CURE will be found for all cancers. I wish the best for you and your dear friend. Rj

I previously lost an uncle to brain cancer so I know how aggressive it can be.
Sorry to hear of your loss. Cancer is far-reaching. My friend is a fighter and I hope and pray she will get through this.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. There are several great organizations that accept hair to make wigs for adults and children. My daughter has donated her for such a cause. When my friend was diagnosed with bone cancer, I went with her to pick out a wig and as a surprise, brought one for her that I had which she gratefully accepted. Prayers and positive thoughts are gratefully accepted.

It seems to me that cancer is cancer and all is related in some way. That makes me question why we have Breast Cancer awareness, and other specific cancer fundraisers. Why not just have Cancer awareness and benefit all cancer patients? I've long wondered that.

I understand your point. A major fundraising event here has changed its name to ‘the weekend to end all cancers’. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
