I pray for Inter-religions peace and harmony

25th of December has always been a public holiday in Pakistan! However, it is not a public holiday because of Christmas, but because coincidently, 25th of December was the birthday of Mohammad Ali Jinnah (the Quide-e-Azam - Founder Leader of Pakistan). Christ's birthday or Jinnah's birthday, this year like every year, it was a public holiday for lesser mortals like me. Thus the day was restful as all members of my family were at home and I did not need to get up early to prepare breakfast for them. Thank God for small mercies! For the Christian community in Pakistan Jinnah's birthday is a blessing as otherwise they will be toiling at work instead of celebrating their festive occasion.

It is true that majority - over 96% of Pakistani (total population of some 160m) are muslims so Christmas is not celerated with the same fervor as Eid, but Christians (both Catholics and Protestants combined) are the largest minority, albeit still only just over 2%, followed by Hindu around 1%.
Muslim religion does recognize, accept and respect all the religions introduced and propogated by prophets of God prior to Islam, like Judaism and Christianity, and all the God sent holy books prior to Quran, like Torah and Bible, and all the prophets before Mohammad, like Abraham, David, Moses, Jesus Christ and many others.

The Holy book of Quran has many similarity with the holy book of Bible (which I have read), but also has some areas of differences with the new testament.

I am no expert in religions, so let me not get carried away with details. Suffice it to say these are all God sent religions, muslims are told by their holy book to accept and respect all earlier religions propogated by prophets of God. As an example, muslims are allowed to marry Christians and Jews (i.e., those who believe in holy books like Torah and Bible) but are not allowed to marry members of those religions which are not recognized as propogated by prophets of God, like Hinduism, Budhaism, Zoroastrianism, etc., etc..

It is my believe, and also muslim believe that all religion teach good stuff like don't cheat, don't lie, don't steal, don't hurt anyone and all religions forbid and condemn bad deeds. Therefore, in my eyes everyone who are engaged in good deeds are good members of society and thus loveable, and all those engaged in bad deeds are bad members of society, no matter what is their religion.

Yes, there are extremist in every religion, more so in Islamic faith, who give bad name to our religion and I am embarrassed by their deeds. Extremist and terrorists have not only destroyed world peace and peace of our neighbour's, but they operate against muslims as much as they operate against believers of other faith. I join the world to condemn the actions of terrorists and extremists, whether these were against Christian nation (New York - 9/11) or Hindu nation (Mumbai - 11/26), and loss of innocent people of this world.

I hope and pray that better sense will prevail and we can all will be able to live in peace and harmony in times to come after good overcomes the evil.
