Secret Lives of Women/ Sex Addicts

Last night I watched a very fascinating show about sex addicts on the "Secret Lives of Women" on the WE Network. Four women were profiled on the show; two women were recovered sex addicts, one was still a sex addict in the BDSM lifestyle and the fourth was addicted to exibitionism.

It seemed that only the exhibitionist was without any problems her past. The other three women had experienced some abuse or dependency in their past; the two recovered addicts had settled into normal relationships. The BDSM girl was having all kinds of kinky sex but had issues with intimacy and did not have a steady relationship.

I found the episode very interesting from the perspective of how childhood/teenage trauma shaped at least three of the women's adult sexual lives. Lots of complex emotional dependence that lead to the need for immediate physical satisfaction that was often was destructive.

But for the exibtionist who ran her own porn site with her husband, things couldn't be better. Her next video for the web site was her and nine guys... They had no ; she fully expected to continue the website after having .

"Secret Lives of Women" is a great show- it gives you a peek into the lives of mistresses, polyamorus couples, fetishists, porn stars and more...gotta love it! It's sometimes humorous, but also serious about the real lives of women, often plain "normal" people on the outside, but wild and kinky on the inside.

How people react to things that have happened to them is probably as varied as the number of people themselves. It seems like the ones who turned to drugs or alcohol had an easier way to dig themselves out from it all. Maybe because they converted their pain into a physical addiction, it was then easier to identify and deal with.

It's not surprising that the BDSM gal had the most trouble. I think a woman into that really has almost suicidal thoughts. Self-destruction would be a requirement for involvement with that.

These were extreme cases. Most women just try to choke down things and deal with their pain inwardly.

I've tried the BDSM thing a few times and finally realized that, like any fetish, it's a way to avoid intimacy and still get off. The desired object/relationship is the fetish, not the person. As for 3 out of 4 women with sex addiction having troubled pasts, it's just as true that 3/4 women without sex addiction have troubled pasts . (I think that's what candy4u17 is saying, too.) I didn't see the show, but I hope they weren't implying that kink is a consequence rather than a choice.

Good point re the BDSM fetish- this was the case with the young woman profiled- she was avoid intimacy and having pleasure as both a giver and receiver.
Overall, I don't think the show was implying that kink was a consequence of one's past in all cases, but that it can be an addiction, just like alcohol, gambling, etc, and that one can recover from addictions.
It was good to see the exhibitionist shown as a happy, positive woman with a supportive husband in a intimate relationship.

Last night's show dealt with sex change operations...I missed most of that but these do tend to be repeated.

Sounds like an interesting show. Too bad I don't have cable television.
