Does the dragon taste a little off to you?

Does the dragon taste a little off to you?

I have quite a few cameras ...I actually still have my very first digital camera, and remember how many "oooh's and ahhh's" I used to get when I pulled it out. I bought it back in the 90's for a ridiculous amount of money, it would take about 10 really low quality pictures (that were pretty good for that day and age) before completely burning through a pair of batteries ...faster if you spent much time looking at previous pictures. We've probably all had the cell phone that gets hot on occasion, but it was business as usual with that thing.

Crazy that a guy with a family that used to have camera's grafted onto their wrists and all the years of always having a camera at hand NEVER seems to remember that the highest quality camera I have is in my pocket all the freaking time, as well as a camcorder and a flashlight. Using the LED flash on the phones for a flashlight is quite possibly one of the handiest ideas ever.

Except for g00gle maps of course. THAT is the coolest thing ever, and it's free. Anyone who has ever fought with fold up maps, street atlas for finding stuff, interstate vacations in the 70's and 80's and having to buy maps on the road can tell you how fucking awesome g00gle maps is.

Anyway ...I went to my usual Thursday lunch with my friend yesterday and needed to visit a store in an area that I'm totally unfamiliar with. Okay ...since I admitted buying a hideously expensive camera for the geek cred in the day, I guess I can admit that I saw that Best Buy had the Bluray second season of "Arrow" on sale for sixteen bucks ...but neither of my local stores had it in stock. Oh yeah ...and I had a gift card; it was worth the drive to indulge my inner geek, and zero out of pocket.

Right next door to the store was a Chinese buffet that neither of us had ever heard of, so we decided to give it a try after my geek buy and impulse buy of the previous season of "Supernatural" at the same price (woot).

My first reservation came when we walked in, and they told us we had to pay first, and THEN they would seat us and we could look at the buffet. I paid, and thought it a bit funny that it asked for "tip amount" when you hadn't even been seated yet.

Sorry, but I'm just not that trusting. I actually felt a little sorry for the wait staff though; that HAS to affect tipping at least a little.

Turned out that the food was actually quite good ...waiter guy was Johnny on the spot with refills. It really wasn't bad.

Until I made another trip to get a bit more of the stuff that had been really good.

I wish it had occurred to me to have taken a picture ...it may be common and I'd just never seen it, but I doubt it. There were two trays of eggrolls and the little signs said "Dragon Rolls (meat)" by the first and "Egg Rolls (no meat)" by the second.

I'd never had dragon meat before (will eating it make me breath fire?!), so I thought I'd give it a try.

For everything having been so good up to that point, I just don't know what to say. My friend had one and was fine ...but I only was able to eat three or four small bites and then I was suddenly reminded of the line by the comedian Ron White:

"When I say I gotta yak, that does NOT mean I have a small hairy water buffalo that lives with me"

No, I didn't get sick ...I was just nauseous for the next two hours or so. I don't think I'll be going back to that particular buffet either though.

...and if I ever having a craving for dragon, I think I'll just stick with "Game of Thrones."

dragon meat?

What'll those crazy Asians come up with next?!

My buddy got his before me, and said he couldn't even begin to guess what kind of meat it was after eating it ...since the sign only said "dragon" and "meat" it was what we ran with.

I was joking about a guy my brother used to work with who always came up with the most bizarre things to compare stuff to:

"I ate some Woodchuck last week"

"Wow, what did it taste like?"

"tasted kinda like otter"

Canus you are going to hate me because I am your second male comment in a row, (and I did just check your mini profile which clearly states you are interested in women, lol. )

Maybe it was something to do with the title, which made me curious, but then your friend who said woodchuck "tasted kinda like otter" made me spit my tea with laughter, so I thought I had better leave a comment. It just goes to show that good blogging is still alive and well!

Hey Hotrod! Lol ...drop by anytime; my blogs tend to be painfully sex-free, and they've been known to accidentally be funny from time to time as well. (wow ...judging from your post count thingy, you may well remember the days when Frank Picasso and some of the other dudes were major highlights here in blogland)

Funniest thing about the "otter" guy was that he was WAY "off the beaten track" Cajun. To this day, I don't know if he was kidding or not when he'd say stuff like that!

Always happy to say hiya to buds across the pond in any case!

Quick addendum: I had been looking at another blog with a gal who has a show Camaro, and when I saw your username ...my MIND saw "hotroddreamer" (which in retrospect seems a rather odd nick for a Brit). There was absolutely NO further reason for calling you "Hotrod" other than my apparent inability to actually read!

cheers & sorry!

Hopefully it wasn't stir-fried cat or rat.

And what the heck does otter taste like? Is it another of those that tastes like chicken?

Hmmmm....I know I left that wand around here somewhere!

No telling ...admittedly, the rest of the food was excellent though. I'm not aware of any food allergies, but eggplant has given me nearly an identical reaction in the past ...so who knows?!

Man ...my brother's work buddy was just too bizarro sometimes (funny guy, but a bit out there). I remember when I was a young kid at a very rural place in Missouri, I was beyond grossed out after being told I was eating squirrel for dinner. ...I think I'll stick with cheeseburgers.

I was reading about dragon rolls and they're supposed to have a lot of veggies in them. Perhaps they included eggplant in theirs?

very possible! ...I would have looked it up myself, but was too busy looking into the migratory patterns of the African swallow, and weight ratios required for intercontinental coconut transportation.
