music ~ a primer

i have been playing music for 40 years.
wow! all of that practice is starting
to pay off. oh, i should clarify that.
i have been playing with groups for 40
years. well, ok, that's not entirely true,
either. there were a few scattered years
when i played with no one. 40 years ago
this year, i played with my 1st group.

what a journey so far. my parents started
me out with organ lessons at 12. i wish now
that i would have been exposed at an even
earlier age. i wasn't a very good student.
i didn't practice much. but, i did find that
i had the knack for figuring out the chord
progressions of the music of the 60s. yeah
not too hard with only 2 or 3 chords. that,
the impulsive eagerness of a 16-year old
and a somewhat portable instrument landed
my 1st group. i can't believe my parents
allowed me to take this wooden, albeit small,
spinet-like organ out of the house. or that
dad let me use his stereo power amplifier to
beef up my sound. maybe my folx just thought
it was a passing phase that kept me out of
trouble. in some ways, i suppose it did.

i had the honor of providing music, along with
a good friend, for a woman who was about to
have breast surgery. it was a ritual to honor
her breasts and to provide community energy. a
casting was made of her lovely breasts, which was
the 1st time she had exposed them in a semi-public
setting.

as a result of the weekend playing with my friend,
we have embarked on a project of healing trance
music. still very much embryonic at this point, so
little to report.

yes, the mischief is all good. i hope to write about
this later as i continue the music chronicals.
