Prohibition

Watched the last chapter in Ken Burns tv series about Prohibition. The lessons from this ill fated eleven year experiment still reverberate despite its repeal in 1933.

Problem alcohol drinkers are estimated to be about ten percent of all drinkers. To deprive 90% to protect the ten percent was a mistake and set up disregard of the law, transferred billions to illegal gangs and decreased tax revenues.

The same logic applies to marijuana, gambling and .

Oddly enough when alcohol was illegal it was cheaper and easier to get at all hours then when it was legalized.

The vices should be legalized, heavily taxed, and subsidized treatment provided for those addicted to the vices.

Making marijuana illegal just sends users to drug dealers who have many more lethal drugs available as well... Think heroin, meth, oxycontin, and extasy...

And worse we don't tax all the marijuana being sold and consumed so druggies get a free ride, and we pay more to fix the streets, run the schools and pay for healthcare. Let the druggies pay their fair share...
