Lawyers do think differently.

People usually over generalize without thinking about exceptions. Lawyers tend to think of the exceptions.

For example, most say killing is a sin and criminal. Not always. Killing someone to protect yourself or another is justifiable homicide when done in self-defense, and no crime.

People will object that is not what I meant. But you said all killing is murder. Not true.

A policeman is allowed to use lethal force to stop a fleeing felon. Not necessarily a good idea, but legal.

Assisted suicide is legal in Oregon. In other states that same act is murder or manslaughter...

The law is complicated. Best not to argue legal issues without detailed knowledge and precision...
