Defective people

My faith in the intelligence of humans has again been upset by recent events. The research into cognitive psychology show people are defective at judging events intelligently. The UK vote to exit the EU and the election of D. Trump are pretty good indicators that tribal feelings and emotions are leading people to make sub optimal decisions.

People are impressed by strong bragging, even if obviously counter factual. Slogans are persuasive, while facts are boring and ignored. Clear lies are rewarded. Truth is of no consequence. Journalists are slandered, ridiculed and intimidated. Obvious lies worked for Putin and Trump.

Over time the truth comes out and corrections are made. But trillions of dollars can be<b> wasted </font></b>first. Most would agree the Iraq war costing trillions of dollars made matters worse and helped empower Iran and ISIS. What damage will Trump do to the world? We shall see. His cabinet picks of climate change deniers is not a hopeful sign.

The Brit exit from the EU will create major problems for the UK, not the least would be losing Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as the financial district and business.

The US needs to get rid of the Electoral College to avoid future Trumps... Real democracy can still go crazy, but harder to do so if the popular votes all count.

Defective people are us... Not a pretty picture. More reason to prefer pleasure to politics as the news is just too annoying.
