Guns again

America has a gun violence problem. No other developed country has so many gun deaths. The problem is too many guns, which leads to many needless deaths and injuries. Actually the greatest number of deaths each year are men using guns to commit suicide. Next biggest groups of deaths and injuries, accidental deaths from guns. Actual mass shootings, as tragic as they are, kill relatively few total number of people.

Guns are tools, and very effective tools. As Las Vegas tragedy showed, a sniper with a large crowd, high rate of fire semi-auto rifle with a bump stop can kill and injure many very quickly.

A knife wielding maniac could only kill or injure a few. The rest would run away or have a chance to fight back. Should we promote knife killing sprees? "Real psychos get macho and use a knife to kill!" Just kidding as there is not a big market for considerate maniacs to kill fewer people...

Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people quickly, easily and efficiently.

We need politicians at the state and local level fight for sensible policies to decrease the mayhem. Voters have power. Promote life or death. There are strategies that will lead to less carnage. Banning bump stops will . Banning high capacity cartridge clips will . Requiring gun safety classes can . More access to mental health treatment can . Using FBI databases for all gun buys can . Etc.
