Truth matters

You would think it obvious why truth matters. But we are in a post factual era. Everyone has an opinion and all opinions are deemed of equal value.

But reality has a stubborn quality. Climate change deniers get wet when the ocean levels rise just like the rest of humans.

When our fearless leader just makes up shit, and then makes up the opposite shit and then returns to the original BS, something is lost. That something is trust in the competence and trustworthiness of the President. Lack of confidence in the moral character of the President can undermine the faith in representative government.

Perhaps we should abolish democracy and opt for a king as the present system has not worked to elect a competent leader. Seriously.

Some have blamed the electoral college which increased the power of rural and "conservative" areas which are deeply unhappy with their relative neglect. The revenge of the older white non-elites has cost us a competent President. The illegitimate leader who lost the popular vote be almost 3 million votes again shows the system is rigged against the popular vote. George W. Bush was also installed despite losing the popular vote, twice...

We can abandon the effort or work harder to fix the mess.
