Self employed out of status aliens Some people tout the idea of cracking down on employers to end the allure of jobs in the U.S. to aliens without visas. A big problem with this reasoning. People with no right to work for someone else are free to be independent contractors or self employed. Many work on construction or remodeling. Others do massage or yard work. Self employment is totally legal for undocumented out of status aliens. They are supposed to pay state and Federal income taxes, but some make too little to have much to pay. Safety seems to be the driving force for Central Americans coming to the U.S. They are fleeing gangs, violence, drugs and chaos. No walls or punitive laws will stop the flow. The U.S. would do more good by helping to stabilize and rebuild the economies in Central America than by building a big expensive wall. So terrible when tents, detention and prisons in the U.S. are better than daily life in many places in Central America. |
