Guns again
Guns again Another recent tragedy in Minn. shows my point about having guns around leads death. A policewoman yelled Taser but grabbed her gun and shot a Black man who was resisting arrest. She made a mistake and he is dead. If a trained law enforcement officer can make a mistake, an untrained member of the public can too. Making death easy is not a good thing to encourage. My point is no gun and no dead guy. I think it is more dangerous to own a gun and have it in the house than to not own a gun. Sure you can use a knife to kill yourself but it is messy and more wor Some people like make a big splash when then die and guns are good that. But think of the clean up crew whose job is deal with the mess.... So I prefer not have a gun and not have deal with more dead bodies. |

Choose life and not guns. The life you save may be your own.

Redmustang91, I totally agree with you. I do not know how to get rid of guns or if that is really necessary, but you are right no guns are the way to go. I do think that more control over them is needed. Maybe, if a teenager shoots up his school, send the parents to jail. If a kid shoots a family member send the parents to jail. A cop shoots someone there should be an independent investigation with a victim's family member as one of the investigators. Then hold that cop's nose to the grindstone, just as if he/she was any other murder. I am 71years of age and have never owned a gun, and frankly have only seen one up close and personal in my life. Some people still believe they need to eat Bambi in order to live or be a man.

I do not think gun control or waiting periods will cut down on guns. That is why I try to get people to think about the downside of owning a gun. The fantasy is stopping a robber. The likely result is shooting a bystander or a kid playing with a gun and hurting a loved one. The most common outcome of gun violence is suicide which kills about 30,000 people a year. Those who think sex is the only thing are one dimensional. I am not. But you cannot enjoy an orgasm if you are dead from gun violence even if self inflicted. The odds are against all those macho types with guns.

Guns don’t kill.......people do....

It's a nice fantasy that police are properly trained, but it's far from the truth. The fact that Tasers have grips that closely resemble guns doesn't help when they're in the thick of a potential arrest. Most of us don't carry Tasers and guns, so there's no chance of mixups there. I have multiple guns for recreation, competition, and protection; I assure you that doesn't make me macho LOL Someone clearly hasn't spent much time around gun owners. smh

It works for us in the UK. I struggle with the whole concept of personal ownership of a lethal weapon of any sort which has the sole purpose of causing injury to another human. The problem is a cultural one I think, fear, and macho bravado. Why not just go to a gym and grow some muscles?

It was guns that enabled Americans to kick the British out and it was guns that enabled Americans to expand to the Pacific Ocean. It is part of American culture. It is a lack of guns keeping the army's boots on the necks of the Burmese people.

It works so well for the UK that now they need to ban knives. It was guns that enabled Americans to kick the British out and it was guns that enabled Americans to expand to the Pacific Ocean. It is part of American culture. It is a lack of guns keeping the army's boots on the necks of the Burmese people. I'm not looking to be critical, sorry if it seemed that way, I'm just more interested in understanding why. A dear friend from TX always used to fiercely defend his right to gun ownership (though I'm not sure he actually owned one), his reason was that he would be able to defend himself against the State or Fed Govt should the need arise. We're not so fearful of our govt, perhaps we should be.

We do not need guns for a civil war these days. We can change policies at the election booth or by mail in ballots. Guns in the house leads to more dead and injured people.

The problem is that guns make killing so easy. A moment of depression and a gun can lead to a successful suicide. Other forms of suicide are more work and less successful usually.

I am not advocating forced confiscation of guns. I promote gun buybacks and voluntary removing guns from people having them at home or in a car. Fewer guns means fewer dead people. The biggest danger is suicide by gun in a moment of depression. No gun, no dead most likely.

Hate the sin, not the sinner. Guns make death too easy. Lets make death more work and harder to achieve.

Treating the symptoms rather than the disease won't cure the disease. In Sweden, a major tool of homicide is a grenade. In the UK, a major tool of homicide is a knife. BTW, Mexico has very strict gun control laws.

Human nature is the problem. Still everywhere guns are fewer there are fewer gun deaths. Police and private individuals should only use lethal force to save a life, not to protect property. I want people to get smart, stay alive and not have a gun for protection as the gun is dangerous to the owner and his family. You have the right to be stupid but that is not a requirement. You need training and a license to drive a car, but little to own a gun...

Knives can be use to kill folks, but it is hard to have mass knifeings like the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Everywhere there are fewer pools, there are fewer drownings. Everywhere there are fewer cars, there are fewer car accidents and fatalities. If you look at wikipedia's list of Intentional Homicides by Country, you'll see the U.S.is in the middle of the pack. The gun is not the killer; it's a tool in the killer's hands.

Guns are also useful for creating disabled people. Do we want more able people becoming ill with spinal cord injuries? Fewer guns fewer injured people. Hard to be in favor of injuring people but the gun lovers still argue for more dead and injured people.
