So, music is very important to me: I listen to a few oldies stations in town as I’m driving to and from work, I listen to radio on apps on my phone, I have an old iPod that is loaded with some gems I’ve collected... you know how it goes.

Anyway, a couple of old tunes that played recently got me thinking. You know how when you first hear a song, you sometimes get the lyrics wrong? A prime example for me is Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love”. Sorry, but the first time I heard it, I must have been in a pretty crappy mood, because I thought the song included the following chorus:
“Might as well face it, you’re a big dick in love.”

Well, needless to say, when I started singing that version, I really entertained my friends, much to my embarrassment.

How about Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. One of the lines really stuck with me: about having the best years of your life behind you. I don’t know if that’s true, but, even if it is, why should that affect how you live your life now? True, it’s hard not work o feel a little down when you see magazines featuring men who are your age and are still living large, but that’s them. If I spent my life worrying about how other people live their lives, I’d have precious little time to live. I can focus on how “unfair” life is, or I can try to enjoy what I have.

When I look at it that way, it’s a pretty easy choice...
