I should apply to work in CPIB

The recent spate of seniors accessing public funds ( must be a new government scheme to encourage entrepreneurship ) to a tune of SGD $1,760,000 to help the Singapore economy especially tourism has made me think that I should go into public sector for retirement.

Think about the case involving senior CPIB (Corupt Practices Investigation Bureau) officer Edwin Yeo Seow Hiong, who was head of field research and technical support at CPIB, allegedly stole S$1.76 million from the agency between 2008 and August last year. He is said to have spent more than $240,000 of this amount at the Marina Bay Sands casino.

Let see.
1) He pilfered S$1.76 million from 2008 to 2012. 4 bloody years! I am sure his seniors who are supervising him would at least have gone through the books and the internal auditors and external auditors if they too have done their jobs would have picked out inconsistencies by 2010 latest. I did some contracting work and a shortfall of 50¢ was even scrutinized by no less than 8 senior auditors and I was hauled up for questioning and fined $500 for inconsistencies. So paperwork must have been aplenty and a sloppy paper trail was only picked up 4 years on? Makes me wonder about how stupid he was, and how many others much smarter than him have gotten away with more public funds because they were less sloppy with the paper trail.

2) A government officer can spend $240,000 gambling away and nobody took notice? With a meager income, of $60,000 a year, red flags would have popped up every where, duh! And Singapore close scrutiny on opposition public figures parking fines can be detected in an instant and they have difficulties to monitor high stakes gamblers in Singapore soil. Oh please!!

3) I would like to apply for a position that oversees all these people, get paid at least $200.000 annually and be responsible (in name) but never suffer any consequences monetary or likewise for failing to monitor my subordinates. In other cultures, the Seniors are made to pay restitution or suffer jail time or worse, death for failing to exercise control over subordinates. Here, 'I am responsible and who cares.... Nothing will happen to me" responsibility has made me think that working in public office is heck of a good fortune to be in.

4) Oh, by the way, this has nothing to do with CPIB as it cannot be defined as corruption thus CPIB has no experience in monitoring this kind of stuff. It is a police case. On second thoughts, it has nothing to do with police case, it is just a MOE problem. Why? Nobody in CPIB knows Maths and definitely cannot track paperwork. This is a case for teachers to come and teach staff how to balance the sheets.

The first thing I will do when I join CPIB is to accept VP Jo's secret offer to me to help him with similar arrangements with exIMF boss. And already he has said I will get more of these important dollar notes when I have completed my task.

( Jo - sorry for name dropping yours in here to lend credibility to this unfactual write-up - I promise I will treat you ice kacang )
