Profiles On Blogs Are Nice But Where Are The Profile Pics?
Profiles On Blogs Are Nice But Where Are The Profile Pics? Want a way to add profile photos to your blog's profile posting? Read on. Many of us have pinned a "This Is My Profile" posting to their blogs to help standard members who can't read our profiles get to know us better. But what about those profile pictures that they can't see? You can easily place one of your profile pictures in a blog posting by clicking the "Member Photo" icon in the toolbar and putting your user name in the dialog box that comes up. But if you try to place a second profile picture by clicking on the icon again it brings up the "Add a link to a post" dialog instead. It seems the system only wants to allow one profile picture per post. By default the tag created by the dialog shows the first photo in your "Profile Photos" folder. The tag looks like this: photo MemberName (with brackets around it). If you want to show a different photo just add a number to the end of the word "photo" in the tag. Like this: photo2 MemberName But how can the other pictures be shown, too? The limitation is easy to over ride - if you're willing to forego the dialog box and enter the additional tags directly on your post. Now, to add more of your profile photos all you need to do is copy that tag that was created by the dialog and paste it somewhere else on the form, then enter the number for a different photo. Like this: photo1 MemberName photo2 MemberName... etc. (Don't forget to copy te brackets, too.) There are some limitations. It only shows the thumbnail version of the picture not the full size, un-cropped photo. And if a viewer clicks on those photos they are brought to your profile page, not the profile photo page. Unless, of course he or she is a standard member. But, what if you don't want all those profile photos displayed on your blog's main page? You can still give standard members a peek at them without cluttering up your profile posting. This is what the "Create more pages" link on the site's main blog page is useful for. You can put profile photos on a separate page. Build the links to the photos the same way you would on a blog post. Name the page and save it. Then put a link to that page on your post with text something like "Click Here To View My Profile Pictures." To do that edit your blog post and click on the "Links" icon in the toolbar and select "My Pages" then select the page that has your photo links and add the link text. Not too hard, was it? If this was helpful information please leave a comment. If enough people think it's useful I'll share some other tips, too. Otherwise I'll just stick with writing fanciful drivel. En-Joy! |
