Today is GoTopless Day!!!!! Remember everyone, today, AUG 24, is International "Go Topless" Day!  Show your support for women's right to choose what she does or doesn't wear, where and when! This movement is supported by a number of international women advocates groups! However, this may be a good time to point out some contradictions of purposes and causes. There has recently been some flap in the news about the "cover" photo on a Men's Clothing magazine that was recently mailed out as complimentary advertising. Earlier this month, there was an even bigger flap about the photo contents of another Clothing Catalog.    Interestingly, the most vocal opponents of these mags were women's advocacy groups! Their complaints were that the photos in question "sexualized, objectified, and sexploited" women and their image. It does raise some interesting philosophical and theoretical questions. If we were raised, and lived, in a society where women routinely went topless from spring through fall, when they felt like it, based only on their comfort, and simply matter of factly,...... would there really be anything to sexualize or exploit, or objectify? Would there be any reason to go "gaa-gaa" over a pair of boobs, when you'd be seeing them everywhere, every day? |

It is somewhat unsettling to think someone wearing only a Polo Sweater is considered : "TOO SEXY" for England! I know someone who wears polos very well!

I could use this as a platform to spout off some of the stuff I've been learning in workshops this week - but then I would just be ranting. Thanks for posting this. The discussion of what one person considers freedom, being someone else's idea of abhorrent could go on forever. The sooner the world realizes that a woman's breasts are NOT genitals, the better off we'll all be. well... i'm not so sure about this. I'd feel uncomfortable around a whole bunch of topless women. and it's not because i'm sexualizing them, cuz i don't see women that way. i guess i'm a proponent of keeping hidden that which i value. Plus, it's wrong that less clothing feels more comfortable in hotter weather... sweaty skin against sweaty skin is actually uncomfortable and if you're body parts touch each other, they can rub, and the friction will cause the skin to excoriate. i wasn't allowed to wear pants growing up, and my thighs were always burned raw in the summer. cloth soaks up the sweat, and keeps you feeling comfortable. and able to work, and move about. and is it wrong to curb your own freedom in order to respect the eyeballs of another? sure, we're all free to do whatever we want, wherever we want, etc... but... so are others! and i don't see the value in deliberately offending others, just because i have the right to. also.. rubbing my freedom in other people's faces, isn't really going to help them see things my way. well... those are my thoughts. and feelings. for what they're worth.  --Author Unknown
