***** Why English is Such a Difficult Language  Others that have learned to speak another language, have you run into problems learning that language? If you have, did it deter you? I sort of speak, English, Spanish, Thai, Laotian, Vietnamese, and Urdu. None perfect, but at least at a verbal communication level. What languages do you speak? For fun, here are some examples of the American English difficult usages. Please add any that strike you also1.) The bandage was wound around the wound. 2) The farm was used to produce produce. 3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse. 4) We must polish the Polish furniture. 5) He could lead if he would get the lead out. 6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert. 7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.  A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum. 9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes. 10) I did not object to the object. |

but.......so many people from so many places want to come here. my position is that if you want to immigrate to such a desirable place,the commitment to learn a difficult language is a small expectation

Although English is my first language, for many years I could not speak it intelligibly. I come from a long line of undereducated illiterates and over centuries our family's spoken language dissolved into a garbled mess... It wasn't until late primary school that my spoken or written English was equal to that of my peers. Not being able to competently speak the local language is a frightening and isolating experience. I'm so glad that I continued to apply myself to my English studies as I can now have complex conversations with the most highly educated people in the English speaking world and never feel foolish.  . That was the "push" when I was in different cultures, escape that isolation. Why pass up a chance to learn?

I am still having trouble writing in English.. It sucks sometimes.. My first language is French. Since I am going to Mexico so much I need to take up Spanish. hugsssssssss V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

I think the English language is very hard to learn because of the relative lack of rules. i'm pleased I'm a native English speaker especially as many people's second language is English. I can speak German (conversational not fluent) and can get by as a tourist in French and Spanish. I can also get by with American English!

I bet if you tried one of those language tape series, you would do very well. And I bet your vacations would be even more fun

I have some friends that I have to pay close attention to when they talk, because sometimes it's very hard to interpret what they are saying..Happy Monday.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I only speak English, but did learn a little German when I was stationed there in the 80's.
