+~+ Experts? Ya right

I did something like this earlier this year. I heard another "economics expert" puking advice yesterday . Have you ever had the reason to wonder about advice being given to you by an alleged "expert"? Please read this and see the remainder of my comments at the end.

Woman:
Do you drink beer?

Man: Yes

Woman:
How many beers a day?

Man:
Usually about 3

Woman:
How much do you pay per beer?

Man: $5.00 which includes a tip

(This is where it gets scary !)

Woman:
And how long have you been drinking?

Man:
About 20 years, I suppose

Woman:
So a beer costs $5 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450. In one year, it would be approximately $5400 correct?

Man:
Correct

Woman:
If in 1 year you spend $5400, not accounting for inflation, the past
20 years puts your spending at $108,000, correct?

Man:
Correct

Woman:
Do you know that if you didn't drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting
for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?

Man:
Do you drink beer?

Woman:
No

Man:
Where's your Ferrari?

I learned years ago that many "experts" really have no experience, they are just puking out what they have read in a book written by another "expert". A friend of mine says, if your boots are not dirty , your are not old enough to give advice. This really rang true to me during the recent economic down turn. Close friends of mine, at the beginnings of the problems went to "experts" for advice. Both they and the "experts " lost substantial assets. My strategy actually kept me with no loss, no great gains, but no loss. The difference between me and an "expert" was, I worked hard for my money and learned through hard knocks. What are your experiences with "experts", have they been good, bad or indifferent?

Most people do not want and cannot afford a Ferrari. The depreciation is terrible, and the maintenance and insurance are too expensive. A new Corvette is fast enough for $60,000 and much more affordable. A Mustang for $30,000 is fast enough for many...

Also if you get your beer at a supermarket you can buy a six pack for $5.

I am also tired of some of these experts. Do they think we are stupid?

I agree. I was once talking to a finance "expert" He was advocating a super investment opportunity. I pressed him and found he had no money in the investment. I just walked out on him

you made me laugh! I have personally experienced the "expert" syndrome. the scariest are the experts in their 20s who profess to know everything.

The Experts? Thank goodness I don't need to use them with my lifestyle, but when i have,I don't like it. I have trust issues, and they have an agenda, and it usually involves me handing over cash!!! Besides...its only their opinion, and I listen to my gut majority of the time. I hide my cash!!!
As silly as some may think ,that hiding cash maybe, there is some merit to it. You can put it in a year long CD for maybe .5 percent and not have access for that period, or "hide" it (that includes a standard savings account) and have complete access. Now who is the expert

I'm surrounded by experts at work. Economics experts rarely look at the real world; they're too much into mathematical models.

This reminds me of folks that give up drinking or smoking. They say where is the money I am saving? LOL For some reason they cannot account for that money once they stop. I remember my Mom gave up cigarettes in 2005, she was able to afford to go to bingo a few more times a month I guess. Oh if they got started on how much bingo or gambling cost one and what they could be spending that money on...i think I could have quite a bit of stuff over the years LOL.
It is so easy to say that you can save money by stopping one habit or another. But it never seems to show up as extra in the budget

When I worked for that corporation after I retired, I ignored the "expert" advice and went all Government securities. Their program suffered 30-50 0/0 loss. I averaged 4 increase.

Now that is smart advice. Stay simple, do your own research and avoid risk. You have a lot of time for it to work. The wacko experts would council at your age be aggressive , a bunch of BS. Save a little at a time and it grows
