“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”:
“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”: President Franklin D. Roosevelt: Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The United States was at peace with that nation, and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our secretary of state a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack. It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace. The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu. Yesterday the Japanese government also launched as attack against Malaya. Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong. Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam. Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands. Last night Japanese forces attacked Wake Island. And this morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island. Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation. As commander in chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. . . Source: Courtesy of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library, Hyde Park, New York. Our veterans of this incident are getting older, and soon we may not have any with us. Please take some time, remember them, their sacrifices and those that are no longer with us. I just wish that we remember and force our politicians to learn from history |

"I just wish that we remember and force our politicians to learn from history" That would be the right thing to do Pal!!!!!! It was an infamy then, and it sure is one now......look at so many lives we lose everyday, and instead putting a stop to it, our president gives them money and weapons WITHOUT PASSION LIFE IS NOTHING

I saw this and offer it for all "Gracious Heavenly Father, we humbly gather together in remembrance of the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 Dec 1941 and the loss of life of so many and the many nightmares of the survivors. Today, on this 71st anniversary of the attack, we honor the memories of the 2400+ brave Men and Women who gave their lives for us, as well as those who continued to stand in our defense. We remember the shock of this infamous and unprovoked attack; but we also remember the resolve and courage of a people that knew it must stand and fight for its cherished values. Let this day be a time of remembrance for all citizens of our nation … to look back to 7 Dec 1941 and recount the sacrifice for the cause of freedom and democracy. Lord, we look to you for guidance and in a spirit of praise and thanksgiving we acknowledge that you have shed your grace on us. May we all honor those who have so nobly served, and brought glory to your Holy Name. Amen "

So many years ago, so many more wars and loss of life since, and still there are those who willingly send followers and the innocent a like to their grave, chasing the foolish dream of empire building and world domination. As a species, will we ever be collectively smart enough to learn. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

I remembered from shortly after I woke up today. I offered a period of silence at work. the other men joined me. as far as politicians learning.....unlikely;they already know EVERYTHING

Great pics. This is a day that we must remember and salute the fallen of that day for their bravery and courage. That pic of the Arizona is a good one. I've never seen a pic that clearly showed the ship under water like this one does. It is haunting and sad.
