>>> Veterans Day, 11 November 2021

“An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) was approved on May 13, 1938, which made November 11 in each year a legal holiday, known as Armistice Day. This day was originally intended to honor veterans of World War I. A few years later, World War II required the largest mobilization of service men in the history of the United States and the American forces fought in Korea. In 1954, the veterans service organizations urged Congress to change the word "Armistice" to "Veterans". Congress approved this change and on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor all American veterans, where ever and whenever they had served.”

Today is both one of my favorite and saddest day of the year. We have had so many men and women proudly serve our country in the Uniformed Military Services. As a little boy I always watched the Veterans Day parades in town. I marveled as the “Oldtime” Veterans marched proudly and were applauded by their neighbors. I eventually enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served with pride for 30 years. I had the honor to march in Veterans Day Parades over the years and finally realized the pride the “Oldtimers” felt. The only sadness I feel is for those that have been lost or severely injured while serving and the loss their family and friends feel. Lets all take sometime during our day today to thank a veteran and if you know a family that has a veteran or lost a veteran thank them also. Also , most municipalities have a local Veterans Memorial, a great place to visit and say thanks.

The flag or banner is defined as a white field with a red border, with a blue star for each family member serving in the Armed Forces of the United States during any period of war or hostilities in which the Armed Forces of the United States are engaged.

I love the "We Don't Know Them All But We Owe Them All". It is perfect!
My dad served in WW2. Regardless of the popularity of a war among Americans, ALL veterans deserve honor. I think of some of the more senseless wars and loss of life. Vietnam was terrible, and staying in Afghanistan without a long-term plan or goal, was a terrible waste of life and resources. We spent years and lost numerous lives and nothing was accomplished in the end, beyond punishing them (which could've been done in a year or so. Afghanistan is right back where we started within a week of exiting. SMH.

Still, the servicemen and women who answered the call deserve our full support! AND they deserve a day of remembrance!! THANK YOU ALL who served!

Thank you for your service and to all my fellow veterans, Happy Veteran's Day! Some were drafted, others chose to serve. Either way we are all brothers and sisters and our term of enlistment has no expiration date.

On 11 November 1921, an unknown American soldier from World War I was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in the Tomb of the Unknown, in recognition of WWI veterans and in conjunction with the cessation of hostilities at 1100 on 11 November 1918 — the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Veterans Day is observed by a moment of silence and prayer at the 11th hour.

In the years which followed, the remains of three additional warriors have been laid to rest at the tomb, one each from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The 2021 observance marked the historic 100th anniversary of that solemn first interment.

Inscribed on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are the words, "Here lies in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.”
